Motu 828 mk3 with ADA8000
I have read a number of topics on this issue but none seem to help for my specific application.
I'm setting up a 12.2 surround sound system with two QSC CX168 - 8 channel amps. I have a Motu 828mk3 lightpiped to an ADA8000. I'm running two optical cables to and from each unit. I have the 828 as the master and the ADA8000 as the slave via ADAT In switch. ADA8000 Sync (Locked) LED is illuminated. The ADAT A Clock LED on front panel is illuminated. Clock is set to Internal. Sample rate is 44. Optical Input banks are set to ADAT Optical.
The mac Audio Device Motu 828 output settings are only highlighting 8 analog channels. Should I be seeing the ADAT A 15-22 channels also highlighted?
I'm getting sound from all 8 Motu analog channels. No sound comes out of the ADA8000. I hear a slight crackling when I change the sample rate from 48 to 44. What am I missing?
My laptop specs:
Mac OSX 10.6.8
2.33 GHz Intel
3 GB 667 MHz
Motu Firmware 1.0
Boot 1.0
Do I need to assign the outputs in CueMix?
Please help. Thx

Re: Motu 828 mk3 with ADA8000
The CueMix output page shows the 8 stereo busses available for output. First four is usually populated by the analog outs. You need to assign the remaining outs to each mix in CueMix. 12.2 should occupy 7 mixes.
Owns a 828MKIII, 8M AVB and DP7.24 + loads of non-significant stuff.

Re: Motu 828 mk3 with ADA8000
I've swapped out the optical cables with each other in the ADAT A port. I even switched the optical cables to the ADAT B port. Switched sample rate from 44 to 48. Added bnc word clock in conjunction with WC switch on back of unit. Gone into CueMix and assigned Mix Bus to ADAT A 1/2 while playing some sound on a loop. I got sound when I had the mix bus on all the analog channels 1-8 but not in any ADAT channel. I've heard that I should create an aggregate and combine the Motu with the ADA8000 but when I add an aggregate device, I do not see the ADA8000 listed, only the Motu 828. Do I have two bad optical cables?
Re: Motu 828 mk3 with ADA8000
What software are you using to create your surround mix? You don't need CueMix to send audio to the ADAT outputs unless you are routing 828 inputs to outputs. You route directly to the ADAT outputs from whatever software you are using. You can't create an aggregate because the ADA8000 does not connect to the computer directly as a sound device - you can only hook it up as expansion to another audio device. Give a more accurate description of your physical setup (i.e. 828mk3 Analog Outputs connected to power amp #1, ADA8000 Analog Outputs 1-8 connected to power amp #2) and how you're routing in your 12.2 software.

Re: Motu 828 mk3 with ADA8000
8 channels out (6 low speakers, 2 high speakers) from the Motu to Amp 1 via 1/4 inch analog outputs. 6 channels out (4 high speakers, 2 subs) from ADA8000 via XLR outs to Amp 2. I'm using R E A P E R 4.3 32bit to assign output channels to each speaker via I/O send on individual track > Audio Hardware Output.
That's good to know about the ADA not showing up in the aggregate. Thx

Sorry, can't help with Reaper - not familiar with it. Have you checked for help on that forum? The ADAT out works with the 828 and ADA - I use it from time to time with no problems - different software and just two channel though.

Re: Motu 828 mk3 with ADA8000
Turns out I had a bad Behringer ADA8000 unit. Just received a new one and everything is working just fine. An annoying and frustrating ordeal, but I'm going to move on now. Thanks for the responses.
