No MIDI activity on MIDI interface when scrubbing wiper.

Post by donadi »

I'm still trying to solve my issues about syncing another Mac to DP8 so I can use it to display video. Although I'm getting a good MTC sync, I can't get DP to scrub video on slave computer.

After an unsuccessful phone call to MOTU tech support, I realized that DP wouldn't send MIDI to my MIDI interface when I scrub, I only get MIDI activity when I release the mouse (and then the video on the slaved Mac syncs up at that point).
On Logic or Pro Tools, when I swipe their wipers around, I always get MIDI activity on my interface, but for odd reasons, DP doesn't. Maybe there's something that needs to be activated in DP ? Or is it a bug?
Can someone (with a MIDI interface) verify that for me on an older version of DP
Thank You

This sounds like it's related to a bug I found in DP 8. MOTU is aware of it, but probably did not get the chance to fix it before DP 8.01 was released. Here is the video I sent to MOTU:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmTSpOof0YY
(Watch full-screen, or you won't see the scrolling wiper)

It's a little long, as I was exploring the bug as I made the video, and I came up with the work-around while I was messing with it on-camera. You might try this before you begin, and see if it fixes things:

In the Tracks Overview Window, scrub the audio as if you were holding on to the wiper, which may be invisible. Drag it to the right side of the window, and back to the starting point, then release. See if the missing wiper appears. Once it does, things are "fixed" until you change chunks. When you open a new chunk, it starts all over again. I think it generally fixes itself after some use, but this is a more direct way to fix it.

Thanks Shooshie,
I watched your video but I don't encounter the same problem, maybe because I'm running 8.01.
My problem is that I cannot generate sync (MTC to external computer running Logic) by scrubbing the wiper, I may be missing something.
I did find a bug though:

When I keep the preferences window open on the "Transmit Sync" section (and ONLY on that section), then, I can use the keyboard arrows to go frame by frame, as soon as I close the preferences, then It doesn't work anymore.
I still haven't found a work-around to get DP to scrub to MTC.

Thank You

Yeah, mine is also 8.01. I have a feeling that yours and my bugs come from the same source. There's just a sense of relation between them. Anyway, I'm trying to follow up and make sure that MOTU got my video. Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of this.
