8Pre...How to control output?

I have an 8Pre that I use with my Sonar 7 PE. I plug mics into the 8Pre and then set levels using the trim on the front panel while closely watching the front panel meters.

My question is after I set those levels on the 8Pre is there anyway to adjust the outgoing signal that is going into my input of the Sonar application?

Other wise the meters on Sonar indicate clipping with in Sonar. The Sonar forum has mentioned that after you record you just reduce the levels in each track that are clipping.

If possible I would like to stop clipping before it happens and don't know if MOUT has SW that allows me to do this, because when you arm a track in Sonar and monitor the levels you have no ability to affect those levels until after you have recorded.
