So, what are you trying to say exactly?MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Re: Spaces, full screen apps in ML are essentially Spaces. After playing with that I'll be looking at Spaces again this week.
I've got the spaces-es.
I even have the pockets-es, as do most hobbits.
I just don't know that I have the times-es or the patience-es.
Are you saying that Spaces (es) is *that* worth the assiduity of getting rolling in 10.8?
And yes, I said "assiduity".

Are you saying I'd need to upgrade to Mountain Lion to utilize Spaces?
If so 1 more reason to leave the 10.68 comfort zone.
I suspect in either case that time is approaching,I don't like being behind in OS x 2 times,it rightly or wrongly reminds me too much of being trapped in the G5 ghetto! lol
MLC are you seeing any kind of performance hit or improvement with your '08 MacPro since you updated to MLion?
I still have the stock '08 video card so I also wonder if this upgrade would require me to update my card to a 5770 or something along those lines....
More $$ and I think I'd also need to get another adaptor for my DVI monitor to work with the newer card as well.....

Re: CPU Speed vs Core Threading?
You can use Spaces now. What you need ML for is full screen apps.
The only thins I'm seeing as problems with ML are:
A little stuttering in DP8 video (no other apps just DP8)
Track 16 loosing connectivity after sleep (I never sleep the Mac but it was a default after install)
Needed to upgrade to a recent version of Quicken.
PPC apps are dead. No more pushing apps into Rosetta. GoLive is dead. Probably Final Cut Express. QT7 still good.
Overall, loving it!

Are you using 1 or 2 monitors?
It's pure dumb luck I went back to 1 screen,I suspect I might stay this way for a while if need be and Spaces gives me what I need.
I suspect and hope DP8.01 will have improvements with video and multiple screens.

You must have one of those "old" new MacPros!
I only partially kid, but that's part of the conundrum. Not all MacPros are created equal... or equally.

Re: CPU Speed vs Core Threading?
I think it's late 2008 but it boots in 64 bit. Probably the first ones that did. It's a stop gap and I'm glad I bought it.

Making the studio transition from G5 to Intel now. Got the ol' reliable Power Mac Quad set up as a graphics station in the iso booth. It will make a nice heater for the winter.
UAD2 card installed in the Mac Pro. Let's do this.

The difference in capabilities you will experience will be astounding!
How much ram did you wind up installing in you new beast?
I remember going from my G5 to my modest '08 Quad MacPro was a great move forward.
I envy your confident hands on approach & ability to modify the Mac as you have, enjoy!!

Re: CPU Speed vs Core Threading?
That's 24g, KG, and thanks for the kind words.
The deed is done, and we are fully functioning. It was a good moment when, sometime about 4AM, all three monitors lit up for the first time, all drives were located, DP awoke, and audio rang out across the control room.
5:30AM, barely breaking a sweat with 128 buffer on a project that barely ran on the G5 Quad at 1024. Smiling through my personal fog as the skies begin to lighten in the east. It was a good day.
Now it's time to re-work the template, but first, the signature change.
