MachFive 3 on a MacBook Air and other questions . . .

Post by Apeman »

Howdy all,

I've been a user of MachFive 2 for years and am thinking of upgrading to 3. I've heard a lot of talk about it's intensive memory use and was wondering if anybody could give me some feedback about running it on a new MacBook Air 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with 4 GBs of RAM. I'm using it live so I'm wary of running it if it won't be up to snuff. I plan on using it stand alone or with Logic Mainstage that's also running Omnishpere. The MachFive 2 worked pretty well except sometimes it would pop and crash the sound output, requiring a reboot. Here's some questions I have. (Thanks for your time).

1. Does the MachFive 3 have a way to turn off CPU intense functions?

2. Does it have that crazy absolute path for loading and saving samples? (That drives me crazy when moving stuff from my main computer to the gig) computer).

3. Will a MacBook Air 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor be able to handle MachFive 3?

4. Is the new interface a lot easier to see?

Thanks in advance!,
Tony

1) by not using those. Actually what did you had in mind ?
2) When saving programs, it's relative path. so iif you do your custom presets it should work fine and the missing sample dialog works way better.
3) Yep. M5v3 performs better than v2 AFAIK
4) I think so and most people on this forum as well AFAIK.

Thanks Hugy,

I'll be running MachFive 3 live . . . .triggering samples (lots) so I probably won't be running the CPU intensive stuff, (IR reverb and new synthesis?) Any other CPU intensive aspects?

Thanks,
Tony

If you're fine with M5v2 CPU wise, you should be fine with M5v3
