If so, tell me the secret.
If I hookup one, it works fine. If I hook up the other, it works fine. I'm only wanting to use one of them for the inputs (to give me 16 inputs), no digital conversion being done on that unit. When I tether them together via lightpipe I see signal in the inputs only unit but it doesn't pass the audio to the other one which is connected to the DAW via Firewire.
I've been using a single unit with very few problems for several years.

Any ideas?
Have any of you actually ever run 2 MOTU 896HD's together?

Hey Pdlstl,
I was wondering why you connected them that way. I tried to do that one time and kept getting dropouts in lightpipe signals. To this day, I cannot figure out why. I was trying to "see" all the signals in one cuemix window.
I have connected four MOTU devices together in a FW chain and can record 32 tracks at one time, so it can be done. You can use cuemix to switch windows and monitor the other 896's.

Been using that setup for 7 years.
Lightpipe one into the other. Then in cuemix you need to assing each analog in to the adats out. You use the four mixes in cuemix for that.
I strongly suggest you to get an external clock and word clock them both from the master clock.
