Looking for known good ExpressCard Firewire for MOTU 828mk1

Post by montsamu »

My laptop was upgraded from my previous Thinkpad T61 with integrated Firewire to a new Thinkpad T420 which ... sadly has none. This has me looking at ExpressCard options to keep my MOTU 828mk1 still going. (It hasn't failed me yet!) I have Windows 7 64-bit with fixpack 1.

The ExpressCard/34 chipset is Mobile Intel QM67 Express Chipset. My default choice would be to just grab a SIIG, e.g.:

But I figured I would stop in here and ask just in case there is a known issue, or other known working good solutions here. I miss having my MOTU up and running, and do not want to end up down a chipset/driver dead end that could be avoided so easily. I did browse through the "working drivers" thread, and didn't see this particular chipset mentioned -- though that might be reader fail or search fail on my part, and if so, mea culpa, etc.

Hey Montsamu,

I had looked for a new laptop recently with firewire ports, and did not find any for my price range. I did find a laptop with an expresscard port. I had heard good things about the Rain expresscard, so I ordered one. It works really well for me. It has 2 FW ports and a TI chip inside so is content with my MOTU devices.
