MicroBook II Missing 88.2 kHz Sample Rate?

Post by popeye000 »

88.2 kHz sample rate doesn't exist within window audio properties. The choices are: 41.100... 48.000....96.000 hz!

Installed on numerous W7 (32/64 bit) machines.
Upgraded Firmware and Software through Motu
Exchanged item
Issue still exist on new SC

Sotward problem, maybe?

Has anyone noticed.........? Hello......anybody?

Microbook doesn't have the MOTU Audio console software, correct? If it does, you choose in there.

But anyway, what's the point of putting Windows to 88.2 kHz? I can't seem to think of any...do you really have 88.2 tracks you want to listen to or something? Just put it to 96 then and it will be upsampled instead.

If you want to make projects at 88.2 kHz, just set your DAW to use that.

Non, it doesn't have the Console soft, only MixCueFX.

I bought the MicroBook II to replace my MBox mini 2 which doesn't sample rate that high.

It's normal to have 88.2 as most mid-priced SC's do AND it's highly advertised as a feature, like 96 khz....ALL OVER THE NET & ON THEIR SITE!

I'm aware that there's always a workaround.....but why should I workaround when I bought it for this reason, as advertised; and it doesn't!

I record in 88.2 and sometimes mix, too. My engineer & mastering prefer 88.2, if possible. Larger headroom, better quality.....FYI!

Plus, any one knows that if you set a DAW at 88.2 and the SC at 96 kHz you have sample rate mismatch (not recommended):

1. Sample rate conversion happening, which overworks your system
2. Bad SNYC, which causes dropouts, crashes and VSTi's functioning improperly!

Are you a novice........?

I learned to do things properly, MOTU ARE YOU LISTENING ???

Lol...... This is driving me mad! People have read the post but no one has stated whether this issue exist for them. Am I alone, here?! I'm a computer engineer, 2 machines (32 & 64) having the same result....

My built-in Vaio & Satelite Pro SC's show up to 192/24 khz (88.2 included)

I opened a Tech ticket but haven't received a reply.........as of yet!

Hopefully, they're working on it.

I still don't understand what the problem is though.

If you set your DAW project to be 88.2 kHz, I'm assuming the MOTU gets set at that and all is well, correct?

That's not a workaround, but rather instead, it's how you use it.

Thank you for your response......

Normally, it's NOT the apps that control the sample rate of the sound card.....but ONLY the Project's sample rate itself so that you can SYNC it properly with your sound card for VST/VSTi and/or controller, keyboard usage.

Because MicroBook II's Control Panel doesn't allow an option for changing its sample rate, it can only be accomplished through Windows.

When I change the project to 88.2, the sound card still states 44.1 (in Window) which specifies that a conversion is taking place within the system.

Different rates causes:

- system overflow,
- ventilator works non-stop,
- VSTi sync problems,
- drop-outs, eventually leading to....
- application freezes, as well.

Professionally, dual sample rates are NOT recommended. Normally, one must SYNC the two for proper performance; which isn't possible in MicroBook II's case!

This is how it's done, unless the MicroBook II has changed the game.

If changing the Project rate changes the sound card then why....when I change the Project rate and verify within Window's, it's different?! Out-Of-Sync!

There's NO sound card that I'm aware which changes sample rate by changing the project rate. This must be done within the OS Audio properties or through the Apps Audio Control Panel, MAC and Windows!

I still think you're just over-analyzing things and worried too much about being this elusive professional instead of just creating.

For example, Windows set at 44.1 kHz on my Traveler. Open Cubase. Open a new empty project. Set the sample rate to 96 kHz and the Traveler is set there too. Time to track if I wanted now at 96 kHz, no other concerns or steps to worry about.

Should be the same for you (only with your intended 88.2 kHz) unless the Microbook refuses to be changed like that for some reason.

You're welcome.

As I stated before, changing the Project sample rate does NOT change the sample rate of the Sound Card.....which does not allow proper tracking.

Motu advertises 88.2 and 96 khz which 88.2 has not been proven, at the moment!

This is MAO 101 and anyone using sound cards knows this......Henceforth, Are you a NOVICE?

On your scenario:
In Cubase, I receive an error that states that my sample rate has changed, would I like to adapt to the new sample rate?, in the middle of a project. (I believe thus is caused by different sample rates)

or

My VSTi's do NOT sync properly and I must adjust the wave/MIDI forms afterwards......a workflow killer!

It works for a moment, then all is off track or errors!

To be truthful, I really don't give a Rat's butt about your personal accusations of my professionalism and would prefer you keep them to yourself!

There's an issue here and you're NOT helping! If your Traveller works for you, great! I don't have a Traveller! So, why are you commenting?!

You receive that change error because Windows (most likely) or some other program is trying to make sounds.

Disable Windows sounds altogether and you will have a more professional setup without the MOTU changing rates for any reason, but did you really need me to tell you that?

You could either listen to me or keep calling me a novice. The choice is yours.

As a novice, I read manuals.

Thanks for the info but there's nothing else running when I use a DAW......

Tech has reproduced the issue and I'm in communication with them, now. It's an error and should be addressed.

It's not just about a workaround ...... but to post it for others, to know if it reproduces in other situation. And to notify Motu of the issue to correct it, in the next update.

Yes, Pro's do, too read.....this is what started the confusion!

So, what do you believe? The manual or what you see in Audio properties?

This was the reason for the post......where's the error? If, it's confusing to me, also for others. Now, they are aware of the issue!

Thanks for informing me a little......

I asked several times if he was a novice which he never replied.......and there's no signature; to inform otherwise.

I stated that I'm an engineer only to establish a level of competence for finding the solution.

This leads to believe that the DAW's project setting commands the MB II's driver automatically, which is an unconventional concept.....

Which leads to question still.......why 88.2 isn't listed in audio properties; if any should be listed, at all?
