DP 7.xx/8.0 and Waves Z-Noise (bug)

Post by PJ »

If you are using Waves Z-Noise and DP 7.xx/8.0, there can be DP freeze when you try to trim a new audio clip with trim-tool.
How to freeze DP:
*Create a new clip inside the existing audio clip by using any plugin you like (write audio).
*Now trim this new clip from right to left (trim tool)
DP will freeze.

You need only one Z-noise plugin inserted somewhere in the project. No other Waves plugin (Diamond) can't reproduce this, but Motu tech informed me that problem is in DP not in Z-noise. They can reproduce this also. So we can be sure they will fix this.

Simple workaround until real fix is to check Audible mode off when trimming audio.

That's not the only problem with ZNoise . . . seems that when processing a track it causes a noticeable lag in start time after hitting 'play' . . . then it does the same thing in reverse, that is, stop playback and it takes a second or so for playback to actually stop. Disable the track or remove the Znoise plug in, and the problem goes away.

Fortunately I'm just using the Znoise demo, so I haven't spent any money on it yet. Seems to work fine otherwise. Is there a solution to this problem?

That's true. If you disable Automatic Plug-in Latency Compensation, play starts without lag (but also APLC off there can be lag sometimes.. weird). This lag has something to do with heavy latency plugin and DP's APLC. If you look this latency chart from Waves, I think it's easier to understand why exactly Z-noise is causing problems with DP. http://www.wavesupport.net/content.aspx?id=2213
I haven't found workaround for this (and I think this is just normal behavior of APLC.)

I can reproduce both of these problems (Z-noise freeze + start/stop lag) in pre-gen and real time. Z-noise is only plugin which freezes DP (original post). It has something to do with audible scrubbing.
