828mkii S/PDIF output - no sound

Post by CQ7String »

Hi folks,

Hopefully this is the proper forum for this, if not - my apologies. I am trying to setup an S/PDIF device with my 828mkii and not having much luck. The device is a Focusrite VRM, and I'd like to send a S/PDIF signal to it so that I can use it alongside my regular studio monitors.

My monitors are connected via the 1/4" main outs, and I do get a S/PDIF lock on the VRM - I just can't figure out how to get sound to it.

In CueMix, I see output on the Main Out 1-2 bus and I do get sound out of the monitors. However when I switch the Output to S/PDIF, I don't see the levels moving and I have no sound, so I assume there's something I need to do to tell the 828 to send the signal there. I just don't know what that is, haha.

Any insight on this would very much be appreciated. :) Cheers!

Hi CQ7String,

I'm not sure how CueMix functions, but this is usually accomplished by assigning your DAW's main outputs to SPDIF 1-2, rather than Analog outputs 1-2. If you want to use the VRM Box and your monitors simultaneously, some DAWs (such as Pro Tools) allow you to assign multiple outputs at once.
