Motu 896HD - Problem with the headphone switch.

Post by Solvik »

Three days ago I bought a used Motu 896HD. It's now installed and seems to work pretty well on all the inputs and outputs. Exept one thing that I can't understand.

Beside the volume pot I got this switch for Main Out + Phones/Phones Only.
When I'm inside Cubase and I set the switch to Phones Only the output on the main outputs rushes up to like 85%! And when I then turn the pot it only controls the headphone volume and indicate this at meter 7 (meter 8 is at maximum all the time), but the volume on the outputs remains awfully high.

(With the switch in mode Main Out + Phones the volume knob control both the main out volume and the phones volume. I think this is how it should work, even if it would be pleasent if it just controlled the main out volume)

As I understand there is no obvious way to reset this, so how should I start to troubleshoot this problem?

Hello Solvic,

I have 3 MOTU 896HD's and have the same problem as yours. I think it is inherent. If I am recording a live band, I usually take a headphone amplifier and push it that way. If I take my Ultralight, I can connect the headphone out of the 896's into unused inputs of the Ultralight and it works well there.
