I got a quick reply from Waves about V9 running in either 32 or 64 bit modes:

Hi Robert,

Waves version 9.x will run in Digital Performer 8 in 32 bit or 64 bit mode. You can run the demo on our webpage for 7 days if you would like to try this out before you purchase.

So I guess I'm good!

It baffles me. :?
The cynic in me says that it was an internal marketing decision to abandon Non-Kontakt development. They've kept Absynth and Massive around because you simply can't come anywhere close to modular synthesis with a standard sampler. But look how little attention they're getting, along with Reaktor (sure, we get a second-party expansion from time to time, but NI doesn't usually do those in house). Battery is pretty much dead too, as most of their new drums are being built with Kontakt in mind. You don't need programmers to build expansion sets on an existing engine. They needed all the programmers they could find for their expanding techno and DJ programs, and guitar processing.

Unfortunately, it appears that in all areas of the market, keyboard oriented software is being passed up for software that targets guitarists and djs. That market didn't even exist 5 years ago, so it's not completely surprising.

What baffles me more, though, is why no one else has stepped up to the plate. VB3 is not even in the same playing field as b4ii, but it's the only one. With the amount of piano, keyboard, and guitar modeling, you'd expect a few people to make a stab at the b3. It's a giant gaping hole in the industry, and no one seems to notice.

I can confirm that Virtual Guitarist 2 AU works in DP 8 (32) bit and Mountain Lion 10.8.0

Also,

When I tried to use Kontakt 5 in DP 8 (64) bit with VST it failed but when I selected AU it passed.
Has anyone else seen this?

please help me :problems about DP8

Post by tina »

I`m a dp8 user, there`re some problems about dp,i hope someone can help me to resolve them,my great thanks!

1.If two same pitch MIDI notes connected together(back to back),when i play them, but the second note can`t be sound, what`s the reason?

2.When i use the dp,the MIDI note has been sounding frequently, under the "Transport" light on, more serious.

The two problems perplexing me for long time, make me very troubled.I have to stop my work when the problems occurred.

I`m very eager to your reply!
Thank you very much!

You need to put a very small gap between the two notes to allow the second to trigger.

I'm sorry but I don't understand your second question.

I know it's common knowledge that Slate FG-X is still 32bit.
I actually called Slate today to ask about this, left a message and a person from Slate tech support called me back.
He said FG-X as well as Trigger being Slate Digitals earliest plugs were written on a 32bit SDK as well as written for iLok1 so as I understood it, they need to be totally rewritten.
I asked him when this might actually be available for 64bit use,the best I could get out of him is they're working on it,they're aware people want it for 64bit and they're aiming to have it hopefully in the 1st quarter of 2013!
I was a bit surprised and bummed out that it's going to take so long to get FG-X ported for 64bit.
I'm speculating but from the time frame & hesitant tone of his explanation, I wonder if we're just going to see a new FG-X2 late winter or early spring.
From the way it was explained to me it seems more like a total rewrite is in order for these 2 older plugs not an update.
So this seems like its going to be a while.

Thank you for this. I was wondering what was happening with FG-X, so I appreciate the info -- even though it's not quite what I was hoping to hear.

You mean as soon as you hit "play" you hear stuck notes, and they stop when you hit "stop"? Sounds like a buffer is having some issues...

Which instrument are you using? How much ram do you have? cpu speed, etc? Please be more specific.

I've had this problem with Play (i.e. Eastwest's software) with DP 7.24 set so I ended up routing my signal through outputs and inputs on my interface, and running all my intances in Rax (a good AU host but without busses). It worked like a charm so I didn't bother checking with DP8 as it's a very big set of patches with multiple Play instances, and it takes about 5 minutes to load. So I continue to do it the same way in DP8, for now at least. I suspect it's a problem related to Play and not DP, I know Eastwest's player, as good as their libraries are, is a tricky beast. I'm in the middle of several projects these days so I don't have much time to investigate.

On MOTU web site they show MX4 as both 32 and 64 bits but it does not work in 64.
I use M5-3 and it can import almost all my samples so most of my libraries are still there.
