It's the little things in DP 8
Now when you zoom in the pitch layer, you get black and white piano keys instead of grey ones.

Nice!
Is it the same when you're in the MIDI graphic editor?

Oh, thank Eno! This has been driving me CRAZY for ages. Why do I have to read letters and numbers to know where I am on a keyboard?
That was some crap UI design. Glad they fixed it!

The graphic editor is not what I'd call "crap UI design." When zoomed in you can see the keyboard black and white pitches as shades or grey. Yes, the new version looks much better. thank you MOTU, but throwing the baby out with the bath water was never so apropos.wheever wrote:Oh, thank Eno! This has been driving me CRAZY for ages. From DP 7... and similarly in every version of DP I can recall. (Can't speak for the pitch correction feature as I have never used it.)

Does this mean that the grey bars across the graphic editor window are gone? That's what I use to tell what pitch I'm on. Having black & white notes down the left side won't help as I won't be able to line them up that easily. Please tell me I'm misunderstanding.

I'd offer my suspicion on this but other posts would have us walking on eggshells about offering opinions without "authoritative" sources cited in our thesis.
Oh, What the heck? I'm beholden to no one.
I'd be surprised if the shaded areas are gone, but they didn't appear in the pitch window capture.

Hmmm, good point.. but looking at Hammer's screen shot, I wonder if they kept the grey bar and just made the keys black. Hard to tell because everything is selected/blue highlighted.
OTOH, making it truly black and white, instead of (50 shades of) gray might eliminate the need for the bar, because the mind will interpret lining up easier because of the greater contrast?
Sigh.. guess I just have to wait till tomorrow to find out for myself.. man, my UPS dude is gonna think I'm sweet on him, tomorrow.

Really Mike? Must you do that? You know as well as I do that you're wayyy exaggerating my intent. There's been a flood of misinformation posted about the 64 bit thing, and we now know the right answers, so I'm trying to get everyone to READ and get on the same page, then post with CLARITY. The right answers are out there now. Yes, there are authoritative sources now, which were not there a month ago. Turns out that there were authoritative voices all along, but we couldn't tell, because the WRONG answers were being purveyed with a vigor that out paced the right answers.
So, I'm just asking that we don't let that happen again. And I'm specifically referring to the whole 64 bit thing, in all its contexts and formats.
What you've done here is just a personal slap at me. Can't we get the forum on track without having to take potshots at the guy who is sticking his neck out and saying "the answers are there, now, so get it right, folks." That guy would be me, of course. So can we move on without anymore potshots at me?
Thanking you in advance,
Shooshie

LOL
On Thursday when I got DP8, I actually pursued my UPS guy by having another UPS delivery guy call him on the cell phone, find out where he was and walk
8 blocks,I guess I should have brought him flowers!

A bit extreme but I got DP8 5 hours sooner that way.

Shooshie I do understand your noble intentions for accuracy but we'd all only have about 50 posts, your posts would look more like Tim's and the Internet would disappear as we know it.
Kidding aside the real problem to me is Apple and other companies have IMO intentionally tried not to fully explain all of this stuff,as it probably helps sell more computers and software.
The less the consumers understand and all of the similarly confusing terminology keeps companies thriving.
All of the searches we've all done and the provided links still only hint at answering the questions we all keep asking and probably not answering to most users complete satisfaction
Consumers murky grasp of the topics could be easily corrected if the developers really wanted us to have clarity.

Re: It's the little things in DP 8
I just took a quick glance at the DP8 stuff on motu.com and looked through the images for a clue about the piano roll and the grey keyboard guides. Pheeeew! I'm relieved!!
