Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Sounds like I've got a similar problem: when I set DP on MIDI patch through, the note on & off messages transmitted by the keyboard controller are not always being received by the external MIDI device that I'm patching though to. The result is dropped and stuck notes. Playing a software synth with the external keyboard works fine, it's just MIDI patch through.
Same behavior with the FastLane and the interface built into the M-Audio box. It's not the interfaces or the cables because the "thru" mode on the FastLane doesn't produce the problem.
I've also got a powered USB hub, I'm going to bypass the hub to confirm that's not the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Actually, according to Apple's tech specs on the G5 (at http://www.apple.com/powermac/specs.html),My understading is that the G5 is USB 2.0 on the two ports in back, and USB 1.0 on the port in front.
"three USB 2.0 ports (one on front), two USB 1.1 ports (on keyboard)"
I'm having the same stuck note problem as everyone else. I think I may move my usb hub from the back of the G5 to the keyboard.

I was having the same problems with DP 4.5 on a Dual gig G4 with MIDI timepiece av.Motu sugested updating to 4.52. It seems to have worked . It's only been 4 days since updating. I was little leary of doing the update. All is good so far.

D-550 - no great sacrifice! YEOW - I can't live without mine! i put it through an Alessis MidiVerb II chorus, on a guitar sound, Chorused Strat (a bit of an edit by me) and It's like, my best sound, dude. Well, always useful anyway.
Just had to stick up for the D-50, and D-550 sound engine.
Also, has 4.52 done away with the MIDI lag that has been experienced recently? Just checking for a friend. THANKS!!!!!!!!

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Thank God!! I thought it was just me, I am so happy now!!
Here's my config:
G4 Quiksilver
Digidesign Mix Cube system
DP 4.5
Emagic Unitor AMT8
OS 10.3.4
1.12 GHZ RAM
I don't use Softsynths or VIs on my main desktop computer because it's too slow, I have my VIs on a laptop and send MIDI to them via an Emagic MT4 and Rax. I have just emailed the makers of Rax to complain about this stuck note issue, but from reading these posts I strongly believe it's DP now.
I am also suffering "tuning" problems. My Pro 53's oscillators keep retuning themselves periodically-but it doesn't show up graphically!!! And sometimes I get completely wrong notes and velocities!
Has anyone installed 4.5.2? And had any luck?
Tomorrow, I am going to save the song I'm working on as an OMF file and open it in Pro Tools to see if it really is DP. Will post back

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Stuck MIDI notes are back. They were gone for awhile with 4.52 but now it seems to be behaving the same as in 4.5. see previous post. What a pain.

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Changing work priority to low fixed the stuck MIDI notes for me.
Now the audio is not as good, but at least everything works.

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Advice to everyone
Try installing MIDI over lan CP (really cheap). It seems to be more stable than "traditionnal" MIDI. I have had fewer problems with it than with the "damned" apple audiomidi setup. It's worth trying if you are tired of also seeing your interfaces disappear from your setup...
Good luck.

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
ellios,
How do I install "MIDI over lan CP"?
I've not had disappearing interfaces, just stuck MIDI notes on synths connected to MTP AV.
I've got a bunch of external synths connected to DP through the MTP and a MIDI express 128.
Will lan CP allow all these connections?
Will DP still be able to see all the patch names?
Can Unisyn still edit?
How does this work?
What hardware/software is required?
Thanks.

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Well it got even weirder for me. Checked the MIDI file in Pro Tools and it was just as bad re stuck notes/missed notes. So I downloaded a little app called MIDI monitor to check the stream on the desktop and on the laptop.
Basically, DP's stream was absolutely fine, and when the virtual synth in question ie Pro 53, Wavestation etc on the laptop was in standalone mode the MIDI stream as verified by MIDI monitor was fine as well.
However, anytime I "hosted" the AU synth in an application whether it was Rax, DP or Ableton, MIDI monitor would confirm what I heard-dropped and hung notes.
This must be OS related right? My synchronisers worked perfectly fine when I used to trigger Reason live on my old G3 laptop.

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
I have been able to isolate my MIDI problems to something very specific. I've noticed that when I'm playing back a MIDI performance, or even when I just playing a module thru DP via patch thru, every so often i get a note that doesn't trigger. While doing some testing I found that this dropped note triggers when I play a note after it. Thus making two notes trigger. Very weird. It must be a bug. Has anyone else noticed this?

4.52 Stuck Notes
Just to add, I'm also having the dreaded stuck note problem. It won't reset completely by pushing the DP software panic button. Also it won't reset completely by pushing hardware panic buttons on the MTPs. The only way to turn off all the stuck notes, short of a complete power down, is to reattack and release each stuck note on each MIDI channel (thereby sending a note off command for that pitch on that MIDI channel, I presume).
Thoughts, anyone?
This was also a problem in DP 4.51
I hope MOTU is listening and will act soon!

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Hello Guys:
I just ran into your topic while searching for anyone with MTP/AV USB issues. Rather than repeat my multi week issue here, if you do a search for the topic under "MIDI Logjam" or my name phillypeay, you will see how I concluded without a doubt that my problem is within the MTP/AV USB, which I purchased on Ebay and had the registration transferred to me at MOTU. I had just notified them (MOTU) via email and waiting for some type of authorization to ship it to MOTU for repair. Am I kicking a dead dog?
Please let me know..........

Re: MIDI Notes Sticking with 4.5
Hello everyone!
In what I believe to be a related thread as far as MIDI problems in general with DP 4.52. everyone from here should check out the thread (Has anyone heard from Motu re bad MIDI timing) I truly believe that the problems that everyone is having are all related at some maybe not so basic level but at least related in some way, I am including the post that I left on that thread that was the begining of help for many MIDI problems that I, and many of my friends were also having, hopefully it will help a percentage of you!
Here it is:
Everyone please try this!
After finally talking to tech support direct, and being given advice as to what some of the problems may be regarding MIDI timing issues, and also being told that the new MIDI driver would be the holy grail of fixes with, " people with similar setups as myself " ITS NOT!
Tech support is, what I believe to be, on to something with one of their suggestions of removing the plugin folder. This was pretty vague but did stop the problem of MIDI Timing issues.
Next step was to find the bad plug. It's not a standard plug but the HUI control surface plug, I am pretty convinced of this after replacing each and every plug one at a time. That definitely took some time and patience, especially with having to reboot after each plug was introduced back into its folder. Of course it was pretty much one of the very last ones I got to. Of course!
I removed and replaced it about six times just to make sure, With it in the folder = MIDI problems, Without it = no MIDI problems.
For me - Case Solved! Hope this helps everyone esle out there with this nightmare problem.
I will forward my experiment to Tech ssupport and see if a new Hui driver would be a good idea!
