Sometimes MIDI notes are unactive on the first beat of a chu

Post by jpg »

They should be able to trigger a sound as they occur on 1|1|000 but they don't, even when edited later like 1|1|010 for instance.
The only solution I found is to insert a blank bar on bar 1, so that these notes appear on 2|1|000.
I use DP 7.24 but this problem occurs by me since many years now ...
Any ideas ?

My SOP since the beginning (around 1984) is to leave bar 1 empty other than for patch changes and perhaps a few controller commands.

You see (hear) a similar issue in Finale at times - at least I used to. It might be related to the processor speed of the machine and pre-roll settings.

I have not had problems with running MIDI sequences from beat 1.

I wonder if there might be some little MIDI bottle neck that has to do with Program Changes, Bank changes, pan messages and other stuff at the top of the sequence.

Try a test where you copy a chunk and strip out all the CC and PC and other stuff other than notes from the track. The event list editor is probably the best for this.

Try soloing the track in question, etc.

You might be able to narrow it down that way.

Always leave at least 1 bar of empty space at the start of your sequence. I routinely have 2 empty bars, followed by 2 bars of count-in, so as to give all the effects and VI's a chance to "engage".

Theoretically you should be able to start playback at 1/1/000, but after
over two decades with Performer, I've learned to do otherwise.
