Things I dislike about OS 10.8
Slow to update saved files
Slow to open files and list contents
They have deleted the drive "space available" at bottom of window. This sucks for me.
Accidentally selecting wrong kind of file in mailbox import crashes mail
When importing mailboxes are done, it creates an import file with each mail item in a separate box. As these new mail boxes are made empty by moving mail to various accounts, they should disappear completely so you can still see the top mail accounts instead of having to elevate down the list which causes the top mail accounts to disappear. Now I find myself limiting the number of imported items so I can still move the mail where I want
This is all I got right now but I have only been at it a day.

Again... why are people updating only to find they have to work to get the system almost "as it was" and NOT have any real improvements in anything other than cosmetics and maybe a few GUI enhancements that very few of us will ever really use.
It may be time to kill the Lions. I so wanted to see them grow up to be big and strong like their mommy and daddy.

Faster for me. I have timed this in 10.6.8, 10.7.8 and 10.8. I am not the only one who notices this.
>Accidentally selecting wrong kind of file in mailbox import crashes mail<
Haven't seen this one.

The only difference I have seen is that I needed to click the arrows on the left to see my folders. Once I did that, Mail looks and works the same for me in 10.8 as it did in 10.7.
Id did take a little getting used to - I preferred Mail layout in 10.5/10.6 but I am used to it now. The Search function, so useless in 10.5/10.6 works well again.
Have you done the upgrade to 10.8.1?
I have my own issues with ML. They broke a function in Preview. I have not figured out how to keep Text and Preview from wanting me to save things to iCloud - I click past the screen but it's annoying.

isn't this a preference? I think I remember this happening after another OS update but it was possible to turn it on again.Timeline wrote: They have deleted the drive "space available" at bottom of window. This sucks for me.

When Loading 10.8.1, the cloud menu appeared and I skipped it so maybe I don't have that issue.

Actually my web browser is lightning fast now. I was in 10.6.8 previously I'm going to have to buy PS CS3 now. That's the most unfortunate I think. DP works great though, AFAICT.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Again... why are people updating only to find they have to work to get the system almost "as it was" and NOT have any real improvements in anything other than cosmetics and maybe a few GUI enhancements that very few of us will ever really use.

>Actually my web browser is lightning fast now.<
My music industry day gig is done through a web based CRM. Anything that makes it faster is better and, for that, 10.8 is a must.
My annoyances either have workarounds (Preview issue) or may have preferences to be re-set (I hope) otherwise, it's just an annoying click-through. I only want Pages and iPhoto to work with iCloud. I'll figure it out soon enough.
There was a promising bit of shareware that no longer works. Glad I found out now as I was just about to buy. No big deal, something else will do the job.
If DP didn't work as well or better (better I am finding), I was prepared to run it off of an eSATA drive attached to my iMac in 10.6.8. Now I don't have to.

Now that Spotlight has had time to re-index your drive, is this still an issue for you?

Re: Things I dislike about OS 10.8
You know, it is getting better.
I just called Apple to ask if PS CS2 can be updated while in 10.8 and guess what? A tier 2 specialist could not answer the question so if you use a version of Photoshop prior to CS3 you have to update before you jump to 10.8. Just sayin...

Some might find that surprising. After my recent experiences, I am not surprised.

Re: Things I dislike about OS 10.8
Here is what I know so far.
10.8.1 changes your machines firmware making a second drive with Snow Leopard dodgy as hell. The firmware update makes apps in SL incompatible. I found you can load SL but only on a completely clean drive. You can migrate the files from ML but if you try and upgrade the SL drive to 10.5.8 upgrade from apple, it will hit 34% download and crash, IN THE DOWNLOAD FROM APPLE. Very strange indeed. My computer runs out of Apple care on Monday so I have a report out to extend this issue through this month but if the firmware issue halts my use of Snow Leopard in 10.6.8.
I have to wonder if this failure is not a global issue with all mac intel machines. I also wonder if my machine happens to be one that has an older motherboard incompatible with the new updates like ML. This mac was 8 grand. It's all disconcerting.

I assume you mean 10.6.8? Yes, backwards compatibility is always a problem. Best to keep a SL setup isolated and clean. After the 10.9 update, SL probably won't even be supported by Apple.
I found a couple of odd things with ML on my iMac i7. I added a small ML partition to my main drive to test out new stuff. I used migration assistant to pull over some applications from the original larger SL partition on the same drive. Prior to this I had deleted a lot of old demos and applications I no longer use. But all the stuff I deleted showed up on the ML drive after the migration. Turns out migration assistant read from the time machine backup of the SL drive, not the SL drive itself.
Otherwise things look OK. No firmware updates, both partitions run properly. Interestingly, I can access all the user files from both partitions from both systems. Perhaps because I used the same account name. But it seems like ML doesn't even recognize the SL partition as having a separate user account on it.

Re: Things I dislike about OS 10.8
Yea, I should have done that but now I'm screwed unless I pull the ML drive and reformat the HD. It seems this gets you there somewhat. I hindsight I guess I just screwed up. I also was stopped in transferring files because they said DL_store already existed on my other drives. I have never sen that before. I rounded up all the DL_store files and deleted them. Hope I'm not in trouble.
