Yeah... but it's something that pros could use for small live rigs or portable "hotel room" studios. I guess what I mean is we've seen no dumbed down, DP Light version with prerecorded loop libraries, etc.SixStringGeek wrote:Really?James Steele wrote:Is it just me or does seeing Avid spin off M-Audio and the implied outreach to the younger "enthusiast" market almost validate MOTU's approach all these years. It seems like they pretty much focused on pro markets and didn't go chasing the M-Audio crowd so much. I don't mean that to disparage, but maybe trying to be everything to everyone just isn't really the best idea after all?
They get their toes wet in there.
Uh Oh, Looks like AVID is having problems........

Re: Uh Oh, Looks like AVID is having problems........
I actually met the founder of M-Audio when he had his first company,
a little outfit with an office in Laguna Beach. He marketed a small
number of little hardware solutions and from there his business grew
into M-Audio. He eventually sold it to Digidesign and walked away with
a good deal of money, now he just does what he wants to do with his time.
Sadly, after he sold the company and left, it was never the same. The
product quality went downhill, getting parts and service became more
difficult. Now the only way you can get tech support on M-Audio products is
through Avid's website, and it is basically non-existent. Right now would
be a terrible time to own an M-audio product that needed service or
support.
The last great product M-Audio made was the Sputnik microphone - I still
have mine, and it works and sounds great. I guess when it stops working
I may as well just toss it in the trash, I'll never get parts for it again.
Their current line of audio interfaces, speakers, and keyboards is sub-par,
nothing I would ever consider purchasing. Especially with this latest development.
Regarding Avid - frankly I don't care what happens to them or Pro Tools.
I'm not going to be suckered into buying PT 10 (I have 9). Honestly, I
think their time is over, but we'll see. It's likely they'll become more
like Alesis has.
