There wasn't a specific forum for this but here it goes to MOTU. M5 is marketed as a Universal sampler, and touts its prowess with regard to its comprehensive synthesis methods, including analog, analog stack, FM, wave, etc. But fully 99% of the content on DVD is sample-based. What gives? How about providing some analog templates using sawtooth oscillators, for example, in a special download or for new releases? This omission is irritating considering the "Universal" claim.

I believe the universal monicker refers more to the fact that it's cross platform, available in most plug-in formats, and can import sample libraries from most other formats.
Nonetheless, I suppose it would be a good thing the more they included!

I'm not a synth tweak-head, but I do think it's fair to say that M5 3 provides plenty of options for easily creating synth sounds.
The various types contained within the Synthesis folder each have numerous oscillators to start off with. It's a simple matter of dragging any number of oscillators into the main edit window to create any sort of sound.
So true, there are not a boat-load of synthesis presets, but the tools (including the built-in effects) to create a boatload are provided.

Well, I'm not griping about the oodles of options. M5 is fantastic! But there is MUCH more to getting a good sound than just layering oscillators. If it was so easy, the pros that Motu outsourced the job to of programming the sounds would have made more osc based sounds. Instead, 1000+ sample-based sounds and only a handful of osc,FM,Wave, etc. Since I started this thread I've learned quite a bit in spite of the lack of examples. So I'm not really griping anymore.wvandyck wrote:I'm not a synth tweak-head, but I do think it's fair to say that M5 3 provides plenty of options for easily creating synth sounds.
