occasional 828mk3 crashes

Post by jimfisheye »

Sometimes one of the 828mk3's will come up crashed. This happens maybe 1 out of 20 times you turn it on. Usually stuff like not showing up in the control panel or hiss or static on one of the outputs. Cycling power always works. Both 828mk3's do this.

Well, tonight's gig was a weird one. MOTU #1 came up with the 2 mic/instrument channels mixed together. The 2 inputs were mixed together and present on both input channels. All other i/o was working flawlessly and MOTU #2 was fine. Yes, What the heck? OK, cycle power. Now it doesn't show up in the control panel. Um... OK. Cycle power again. OK, fine now.

Is this anything to be concerned about? Coming up crashed every now and then is a little disconcerting but isn't the worst thing. This one was the oddest yet though. So now I'm wondering where the line is between normal sometimes imperfect behavior and needs service because it's soon gonna fail for real. Needing 2 restarts in a row made me nervous for a second.
