Saving. Copying and Pasting mixer settings for each track
Dear Unicornation,
I am in the process of mixing a Latin Jazz Cd. Each song has different horn instrumentations but the rythm section stays the same throughout.
I would like to be able to copy pan, vol, buss routing, effect settings for individual tracks and then paste these settings into the same tracks of different songs, which are located in different DP project files.
I am runnging 4.52, and if needed, I have 4.6.
FYI: I used to use Cubase SX1 many years ago and in that program you can do this very easily.
Your attention to my question is greatly appreciated.

I too am looking for a way to copy mixer settings from one song and use them in another. This should be standard recording 101 stuff but I have not been able to find an answer yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can and you can't...(how's that for cryptic)
The only way to do this (that I'm aware of) and I do it all the time,
is use "chunks" in DP.
This basically a facility for multiple sequences in DP.
I have multiple mixes/sequences setup like this all the time.
Then you can copy/paste between mixer setups with relative ease.
Look on page 619 in your manual.
Yes you should be able to save a mix setup and open it in a seperate
sequence, but as far as I know (anyone please jump in) you can't.
I agree that's silly but it hasn't bothered me to much as this workaround
(for now) works fine for me.

1- Finish the first mix on project 1.
2- Open project 2 and load project 1 sequence, make sure not to load the soundbites. A new chunk will be created with the mix from project one, including plug-ins, levels, pans, sends, etc.
3- Go to the original project 2 chunk and copy everything.
4- Paste everything in the reference chunk you just loaded, making sure that the track layout is the same. Now you have Project 2 song setup with project 1 mix, ready to begin retouching.

Snika,
Even if you save project 1 as a template, you will not be able to use it on the other projects (2,3, etc) because those have already been created, and have audio on them. It would work if you recorded song 1, mix it, save it as a template, and then create project 2 from the template, record and mix it, but this is unusual, the most common way of working is record all the songs and then mix them all.

Sounds like a lot of work. I would just create clippings of the plugs and then manually put the faders and pans in. I can't imagine that there would be that many faders to adjust... my .02

If the track layout is exactly the same in all songs it's pretty easy.musicarteca wrote:Snika,

Open a song, then select Load from the File menu to load the mix template chunk. In the tracks window, Select all (command+a) and Copy the track data. Activate the template chunk, select all and Merge.
If the layout is not the same, copying/merging one by one or in groups will be necessary.
Sometimes I'll use Grab to take a pic of the mixer to refer to.

That is pretty much what I proposed on my first post, except that instead of loading a template file created from song 1, just load song 1 without the soundbites, one step less. There is no need to create a template.Tim wrote:If the track layout is exactly the same in all songs it's pretty easy.
