DP 7.24 Crashes when bouncing mixes
Been happening off and on for days...most of the time it crashes.
For awhile it wouldn't even play without crashing. I've been disabling all tracks and then slowly enabling to see if there are some buggy plugin chains. But if I slowly enable them, the file will play.....but I'm back to crashing during the bounce.
Have done disk repair and emptied trash.
Help?

Open a fresh project and load the sequence (and files and settings) you're having trouble with (File > Load). See if that works for you. Look to the manual for info on Loading.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I thought about that but this is happening with multiple projects...assuming it is something 'global'...in the DP setup/system?

This is the answer Zap the Pram by restarting and holding down command + option + P + R Let it chime seven times and release the keys and start up DP. That should work!!! Let me know if it does.

Ah, yes, I was wondering if maybe that was the case.bannerj wrote:I thought about that but this is happening with multiple projects...assuming it is something 'global'...in the DP setup/system?
Will it have this behavior if you have no plug-ins inserted?

It should elminate any issues if you have ran your disk utilities already like diskwarrior and/or disk doctor for permissions and repairing directories and most importantly defraging the hardrive itself. The only thing left is what I described in the previous post.

Re: DP 7.24 Crashes when bouncing mixes
Thanks for the suggestions. Zapping the pram didn't do it. I did run the standard disk utility repair permissions on the mac. Should I get another 3rd party program?
Any other ideas. I need to punch something this is so tiresome...for three days.

Re: DP 7.24 Crashes when bouncing mixes
One of the first things I do when DP is giving me trouble (which is very seldom, thankfully), is quit DP and trash "Audio Unit Info Cache" (User/Library/Preferences/Digital Perfomer). Then restart the Mac and then launch DP. It will rescan your AU plug-ins and rebuild the Audio Unit Info Cache file.
See if that helps things.
If not,
Quit DP.
Take all the AU components out of the Components folder (HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components) and put them in another folder for safe keeping.
Launch DP and create a new project.
Record or import some audio tracks.
Is it working? Can you bounce without crashing?
If so,
Quit DP.
Move the top half of the AU components back to the Components folder.
Launch DP.
Insert some of the plugs you used in a problem project onto some of the tracks in this project.
Is it working? Can you bounce without crashing?
If so,
Quit DP.
Remove the top half of the AU components and move the bottom half into the Components folder.
Launch DP.

The process of elimination can tell you a lot and fix a lot in the process. You don't need to insert every plug. If there's a problem with them it will show up just because they're installed.
If you get no relief from doing that, trash the preferences and if that doesn't help reinstall DP.
I try to do everything before doing the last two things. In the past five years I've had to trash the preferences one time. The Audio Unit Info Cache about 40 times, for various reasons, so I always start with that.
Good luck.

Re: DP 7.24 Crashes when bouncing mixes
The plug-in suggestion could be of use and try perhaps just going with the default set of plug-ins that come with Dp only and from the last post try to use disk warrior or tech tools for directory and/or defraging from a seperate cd/dvd drive or usb stick. Just make sure that your not running these utilities from your main drive. One other thing that could be of help if you could put up some pictures of your selection or choices in the bounce to disk window that you choose for the bounce to disk process as well as the format choices. This could possibly shed some more light on this situation. The last thing I would suggest is doing a reinstall of DP.

If you have TechTool, check your RAM. When I had similar problems, that was the problem.

Re: DP 7.24 Crashes when bouncing mixes
These files are part of a project I've been working on for years. The songs depend on the UAD/Soundotys/Sonalksis plugs. Ditching them would be to start from scratch. Can't do that.ronjams wrote:The plug-in suggestion could be of use and try perhaps just going with the default set of plug-ins that come with Dp only........This could possibly shed some more light on this situation. I send stems out to my MH LIO8 pick up some character plugs there...then are summed back into DP for recording via FW buss.
Perhaps its the age of these files...something corrupting. I haven't tried any newer projects in the last week to compare.
My work around is to just record into the MH recorder. But sometimes the files don't even play. That's when I disable all tracks and slowly enable them bit by bit.
I have to limp along with this as is because I have to send out this project (finally) asap.

Re: DP 7.24 Crashes when bouncing mixes
7.24 has problems with certain old projects that 5/6/7.01 have no problem with. The only difference between 10.6 and 10.7 in this regard is that 10.6 crashed completely while 10.7 just couldn't find my sound bites - they were greyed out.
The only constant was that these projects had begun life on my Beige G3 or my G5.
MOTU support told me it was a) my files were completely corrupted and/or b) My new computer's hard drive wasn't formatted properly and c) the file that I sent them to examine was unable to be opened in anything so I was out of luck.
Well, neither a, b nor c turned out to be true. Since 5/6/7.01 opened my files without problems in both OS, I knew that Tech Support was flat out wrong. It turned out to be a permissions/privileges issue - once fixed, 7.24 opened my files just fine.
MOTU support treated me like my problem was unique. It isn't, I have found out. At some point, they are going to have to find out the real problem and correct it.
Your problem is much more complicated than mine. If you have not opened a support case, I suggest you do so.

Well if they didn't believe your complex situation...or weren't of much help, then I wonder what hassle I'll go through to get help with my situation.mikehalloran wrote:7.24 has problems with certain old projects that 5/6/7.01 have no problem with. The crazy thing is that I worked on these projects in 7.24 for almost a year (or whenever it came out) until this past week and it was working fine. I haven't changed anything in the last few weeks other than installing melodyne. It is a college studio and students have used it, but they don't have admin access to install or uninstall anything...who knows though.

Melodyne with Lion? There are some threads on that. It may, indeed be your problem.
