Sound on Sound DAW poll on FB

Post by cneal92 »

Saw a SOS poll on Facebook the other day. I was astounded by how few votes DP had. It would be cool to see more DP articles in SOS, but that won't happen if DP stays near last place (7 votes for DP--Logic has 150+). Go vote for the best DAW!

I voted. DP is kinda hidden in the pop up window. Ya gotta click "more" to find it. I wonder if that may hinder DP voting a little?

Thanks for mentioning that part. I don't know if that hurts it. Can't help. Some people might not see it.

The fact that even Reason, a sequencer-only app that only became a "DAW" in the latest version, is trouncing DP is quite sad. :(

Sound on Sound DAW poll on FB

Post by kgdrum »

Well that actually convinces me that the most of the people responding to this sort of poll are probably bedroom dj's,the majority being amateurs, hobbyists & Facebook /SOS readers/lurkers.
These polls are about as far from gauging the pro market as any poll can be.
I have no doubt PT,Logic and Cubenbdo are used more than DP overall industry wide and DP & is a niche product but that doesn't detract from the fact that it used by many pros throughout the industry and it's a great DAW.
Add to that DP is about to get better and the user base is probably about to grow substantially with the introduction of DP8.
Budweiser sells more beers than Sierra -Nevada and Smithwicks combined, that doesn't make Bud the better beer IMO.
I'm not going to choose Budweiser because more people drink it,I'm going to drink a beer because I like the taste.
I voted but I think these polls are silly and meaningless.
I'm not trying to equate these other DAWs to bad cheap beer lol but just because a great app or DAW like DP isn't the most popular doesn't detract from it's quality.

Shhhh...

I treasure the fact that I'm using a DAW that not everyone is using, and many don't even know it exists. It makes DP that much more special to me, because I know how great it is. I like surprising people who think I use something else. It brings a specialness and uniqueness to our studio.

I understand there's a feeling like we're helping to ensure DP's future (or at least its ongoing development) by voting for it and promoting it participating in these online clickfests, but are we really? I highly doubt it. My bigger fear (not that it's based on anything other than my paranoia) is that DP will get dumbed down as more people come to use it. Have you read some of the feature requests? More and more users want a DAW that does all the thinking and mixing for them. F--- that! I can't stand that drone-like mentality, and I won't use any DAW that promotes it.

Soon there will be DP for PCs. That will bring enough growth, but even more inane requests. I hope MOTU does not bow to the pressure of 1-knobers.

Can you only vote via Facebook? Clicking on the "Other" field brings up a login screen, and I didn't see any way around it.
