Stuck MIDI Notes

Post by pencilina »

Hi,

I'm using 4.6 on a dual g5 running 10.3if it works don't tix it.8 with a MIDI express 128 and usually no VIs.

I've been experiencing some really annoying note sticking in my otherwise calm cool system

I did a search and found no real answers.. only more questions (woo wooo<- in search of theme)

Some interesting facts:

-DP's panic (all notes off) ain't doing s&*t
-if I reset (turn off) my keyboard/module (Alesis qs 7.1) the stuck note/s come back (WotTF?)
-If I play the same notes the stuck notes still stick
-If I quit DP (or sibelius for that matter) this usually doesn't help
-My solution is usually to restart
-On one recent restart I had to unplug and plug my MIDI express to make it reappear

it seems like the problem is core MIDI related

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

stuck notes suck

my temp solution - open core MIDI setup page and go into test mode then click on the sticking device a few times. Saves a reboot. Let me know if that works for. I think its a core MIDI issue. BTW what's your system version and MIDI interface?

Interesting. Well, when the "MIDI stuck" note rears its ugly head...I just quit DP, turn off my sound modules and the mtp/av...and then turn everything back on....it works for me, at least.

Maybe you're right , it could be a core MIDI issue...because once after I pressed the panic button, the stuck-note stopped...but I lost all MIDI connection (like someone just pulled out all the MIDI cables). I don't recall MIDI stuck notes occuring when I'm using only VI's though. The good news is that it's not occuring very frequently.

I too had some issues with stuck notes, the problem went away when MOTU told me I needed to download the 1.3.1 drivers for the MIDI interface.

Take what little time it takes to do that.

Repar permissions before and after installing the updated MIDI driver.

Stuck notes

Post by jstaczek »

I've had tons of stuck note problems with Tiger, anything connected to MIDI IN on the Fastlane and the latest MOTU OS X USB drivers. I get stuck notes in DP 4.52, DP 4.6, Pro Tools 6.9.2 and standalone right into Native Instruments VIs. DP is essentially unusable for recording MIDI tracks in this setup.

Using a Yamaha S90 connected by USB as a MIDI input device I have no problems in DP, PT or standalone VIs. My verdict: either the Fastlane or the MOTU OS X USB drivers for Tiger are the culprits. CoreMidi patchthru on/off doesn't make any difference. If I had to place a bet, I'd say it was the MOTU drivers.

RETURN TO THE WALKING DEAD TOPIC

Just reporting that this Zombie is still rearing its ugly head.

Tried Pencilina's suggestions but can't seem to test virtual instruments.

So I'm just quiting and restarting the program.

Will try DP DAN'S Suggestion. but first gotta finish this project. No updates in the middle of a project thankyou...

BUT HERE'S THE MAIN THING.

It only seems to happen when I'm SCRUBBING MIDI NOTES. GOT THAT MOTU??? HELLO, ANYBODY OUT THERE?

sorry for the rude tude...

Back to my deadline

Erik

MOTU is aware of the scrubbing MIDI problem. Be sure to send them a detailed description of what you were doing and what you were using (hardware/software) when it happened. My last interaction with them on a related scrubbing problem did yield a "we've-duplicated-the-problem-and-we're-passing-this-on-to-the-developers" response. We'll see what happens, but at least we're this far...
