Re: Real people, real pictures.. show your face :)
I watched MLC's interview yesterday and was deeply inspired by it. The final comment about starving for a few weeks hit home, as I have worked every day of my adult life and have been unwilling to quit a day job and put it all on the line like that (I believe in myself, but have less faith in how much talent has to do with things vs. sheer luck or luck and timing as a major quotient of success). I've always wondered if that's what it takes; either to make sufficient time or just to keep the focus. But it's interesting how many people here wear multiple hats (like MLC).
My greatest life goal is to score a ballet. The tools for us mere mortals weren't there 30+ years ago, but "sort of" are there now. I posted some preliminary sketches recently and took the hit I deserved to take.
I'd probably have more time to finesse such works if I could just get myself to quit my hyper-active gigging life.
In the meantime, I make my living in the audio business with close associations on a regular basis with "everyday names". It is incredibly exciting and it makes me feel like I am directly contributing to the betterment of society through the arts; unlike when I applied my software engineering skills in the mainstream computer business for the first 18 years of my now 31 year career.
What is even more exciting to me is that my brother simultaneously got himself into a position at New England Conservatory that eventually led to his promotion as Director of Communications. So, between the two of us, we feel very tied in to what is going on between the audio and music industries, academia/conservatories, and the performing arts (as well as film and other media), and are closer as siblings as we've been since childhood (in spite of being 3000 miles apart).
MOTUnation is my "home away from home" -- it is the only forum I participate in (and I've stopped participating in almost every other one due to the trolls and bullies taking over), where I feel that everyone is at a level of mutual respect and professionalism, and where people help each other out of the goodness of their hearts on a regular basis. I also have "real" friendships with several outside the context of this forum.

That's actually a real picture of Frodo, at least when I'm drunk. As for Nicky, I think those are also real, except they make me want to drink.
