Mach5 3 Quits when loading Telematic All

Post by NealF »

Every time I try to load the Telematic ALL it starts to load then quits. Even if I've got nothing else in Ram.

I've got the latest version and 16 gigs of ram.

Does this happen in StandAlone or only in DP ?
Check the size of the UFS. It might be corrupted.

Never use the stand alone version.
My ufs file is a bit over 8 gigs. It's the biggest one that came with Mach5, but the others are all in the multi gigabyte range. So that seems normal.

I think standalone is 64 bit and the VI is 32 bit. Can't confirm at the moment. But that might 'splain it. Try in standalone.

Just tried it in stand alone and it worked. Tried again in DP and it quit.

Is there a work around for this? Or do I just need to use the light version. Haven't looked into the 64 vs 32 bit thing yet. Don't know if it means waiting for the new DP 8 or if I have to also get a new computer.

How do I do that?

BTW, I contacted MOTU and the tech thought it might be because that preset is the most ram intensive and I might be running out of memory. I've got 16 gigs. Don't think I can add more to this computer. So if that's the case, I'll have to use the light version.

Seems odd, though, that they would make a preset that is just too big. Dunno.

Well I just tried it a couple of times and it crashed on me too!! One time it actually said out of memory.

I never noticed this before as I wasn't particularly interested in this Preset!! Otherwise M5 seems pretty solid.

Cheers

Mach5 3 Quits when loading Telematic All

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

OK, I'll clarify my post. Standalone can run in 64 PROVIDED you are booted in 64 bit mode, you can address more RAM. If you're boot in 32 bit mode or are running the VI then you are running out of memory. The patch/program loads fine here.

Thanks MIDI Life. I'll have to find out what all that means. Don't know how or if I can boot in 64 bit mode or if I need a newer computer.

Either way it looks like I'd need more ram to make that patch happen. Not a big deal now that I know what the problem is. It's not a vital patch and there is a light version.

I'm sure at some point we'll all need more ram and 64 bits.

Thanks.

Actually this is not exactly true.

The kernel in 32bits or 64bits mode do not change anything regarding the amount of RAM an application can adress. It only affect things for drivers.

In this case, the difference is that the standalone application run by default in 64bits when the system allows it (10.6 or greater with at least a core 2 Duo) as M5 is available in both: 32 and 64bits. Your system allows it so that's the case and so the application can adress your whole 16Go of RAM.

In the case of DP, this is a 32 bits application, and if the host runs in 32 bits the plugin runs as well in 32 bits. 32 bits application means that this application can't adress more than 2go of RAM.
DP 8 will be native 64bits application.

Hope this clarify things.
