Countoff Question!
Howdy!
I couldn't find a solution to this and was wondering if there is a way to hear the audio(not just the click) when recording using the countoff function?
For example: I want to start recording exactly on Bar 34 and want to hear the 2 bars of audio before it starts to record. Not just the 2 bars with only the click like DP does.
The reason is that I record on my own many times and its not convenient to do it manually on the bar I want.
Hope I'm explaining it well. Is this possible?
cheers

Re: Countoff Question!
If you want to punch in exactly two bars after playback starts, use the punch in/out markers in the sequence editor. You enable it with the button directly below the play button in the control panel, then drag the up/down arrows in the SE ruler to your desired punch in/out points.

Re: Countoff Question!
Thanks for the input.. I actually use those as workarounds.. although it would be simpler if DP would also play back the audio of the bars we set the countoff with instead of just the click sound.

Re: Countoff Question!
What do you mean?
Are you not hearing the audio that is supposed to play during the countoff?
If so, that would be due to the input mode you are using. AFAIR, you have at least 2 or 3 options to deal with this, and one of them would allow you to hear what you are recording AND whatever is already there, along with the click.
I'm away from DP at the moment, but you'll find that setting somewhere in the Setup menu.

Nope!FMiguelez wrote:What do you mean?

When I have the countoff function activated, I place the playhead where I want to start to record and when I hit record, the countoff starts(with click only) and when it starts recording everything plays as it should be.
I would prefer to hear the audio with the click instead of just the click while the countoff is playing.
I just think it would be more convenient not having to use the punch in/out function for these occasions. Other DAWs can do this.

Re: Countoff Question!
You could try the pre-roll/post-roll function..... however it seems to default to one bar, and I can't see anywhere to adjust this......

Re: Countoff Question!
completely simple once you get used to dragging your in point and the pre-roll around in the timeline, or setting start to counter....
Thanks for bringing this up, will be useful for me too!!

Re: Countoff Question!
Wow, I thought this was completely common knowledge. I didn't chime in because I thought I must be not understanding the question, but yeah, the pre-roll is perfect for that, and easy to use.
But look out, with DP8, pre-roll is going to be beyond amazing. It will actually record from the moment the pre-roll starts, but just not start the soundbite, until the downbeat, which means you'll have the option of dragging the in point BACK as far as where you started the pre-roll! My only hope is that somehow they're able to do this with MIDI too, because I find it to be even more crucial with MIDI, since a missed MIDI event means an entire missing note.

Re: Countoff Question!
Fortunately, that's a lot easier to fix than a live recording. I miss the Atari Edit/SMPTE Track feature of always being in record mode. You never missed a note - although there were other problems involved in that approach, like notes "stacking" if you played while the transport was stopped. But I digress (what else is new?).Prime Mover wrote:... a missed MIDI event means an entire missing note.

Re: Countoff Question!
Thanks for the replies. I guess the pre roll function is the easiest way to do it if you want audio playing with the countoff. Its almost like the punch In/Out.
But it should be a feature request... when countoff is activated, it automatically should play the audio of the amount of countoff bars that are configured before recording.
cheers

Re: Countoff Question!
I'm going to disagree on that feature request. The thing you are referring to IS pre-roll. A count-off is and should be different.Tesionman wrote: But it should be a feature request... when countoff is activated, it automatically should play the audio of the amount of countoff bars that are configured before recording.

Perhaps though there could be a preference on the count-off page where one could check a box for "Play audio during count-off?"
