Ultralite MK3 DSP's Sample Rate

Post by Dj Noop »

Hey all, first post:

I've been looking all over Google/MOTUnation for this, but the question is too closely related to the device's sample rate. What I want to know is, at what sample rate is the DSP running effects? Can the resulting audio that comes out of the DSP chip, be it a signal with reverb/comp/eq/ or all three, really have a sample rate up to 192kHz? Or is it something like 48kHz upscaled and mixed back in with the dry signal? (For reference, the Presonus StudioLive mixers run and record at 48kHz, most likely because of the DSP's limitations.)

It's mostly out of curiosity that I ask. Just bought this interface and it should arrive in about 5 days :woohoo: I plan on using the DSP effects extensively for tracking and live use (for my vocal mic, electric guitar's amp's mic, and acoustic guitar). When I'm recording at home, I record dry and just need the effects in my headphones. When performing, I'm again recording only dry, and need the effects for my monitors and the PA.

I'm guessing the effects will sound great through a PA, just curious as to how crystal clear the audio really is fidelity-wise. Could the audio from the DSP be as bit-clear as audio from a similar reverb/comp/eq plugin in a DAW? Or just good enough for tracking and live use? (I don't care for the claims of the DSP audio being of record-able quality, just hunting for an unpublished spec),

Effects only work at either 44.1 or 48 KHz. They are 32 bit floating point precision. I have never heard their quality but being that it is MOTU, I am sure they are very pleasing.

Congrats on the new purchase. You are going to like it, guaranteed.

Thanks man, I'm excited =) Though the problems that a lot of users are facing, coupled with the lack of help from MOTU, are a bit scary, I'm confident in my ability to keep Windows stable (cross my fingers).

Anyway I'm hoping someone can find a more concrete answer to the effect's sample rate. I'll continue to look, and post the answer if I find it.

Ehhh - you have access to this website here. I'm a Windows/bsod expert, very knowledgeable about MOTU as well, and there are plenty of others that are excellent with all of it too.

So, no worries. We will help you out with anything ya need.

You should register your new gear on MOTU.com so you can download the newest driver and have it ready to install. You can install it now even, if you want, or it can be installed with the unit connected and powered on too.

You're welcome. (I edited my previous post with facts instead of guessing - although my guess was right! :) )
