laptop power for 2 daisychained Motu 828mk2's ?

Post by gusss »

Do you think a Apple Macbook pro with 4GB ram and an i5 @ 2.3GHz processor would be able to power two daisychained MOTUS each using their ADATs as well to play 32 channels of Audio simultaneously ?

If you mean running the 828mkII's on firewire bus power from the laptop, the answer is "no." Get a Traveler or two if you want to do that.

And the answer would still be no.

Laptops cannot supply power to an 828 - must be plugged into AC current.

Bus powered devices receive bus power to the first device in the chain only - and only if the port supplies adequate bus power (see below). The rest need a power source such as a wall wart or USB or FireWire hub with external power.

Mac laptops with multiple USB ports supply bus power to one port only. Many web sites will tell you which one. Again, to power multiple units you will need need an externally powered hub.
