New Universal Drivers will not Insall for 828mk3

Post by Rupert14 »

Hey All,

I am having a problem getting the August 2011 release of the Universal Drivers to install. All 4 of my previous driver updates have gone fine, but this one stops in the middle of the install and rolls back, gives me a "Ended Prematurely" install error window, and then renders my hardware useless.

I have written a Techlink at the MOTU site and they have ignored me. I have the right driver, have done the 'remove old drivers' and bootup without hardware connected voodoo dances, incantations, federal applications and combination lock methods. To no avail. :banghead: I simply have to re-insall the old 3-2011 drivers from scratch and the unit works again.

I have an 828mk3 firewire and a 64 bit Windows 7 on a Dell i7 computer, and all of my former updates have gone fine.

What is up with this?

I ran into the same issue with my Traveler and the new universal driver install. Fortunately for me, I know Windows and PCs like the back of my hand.

First, uninstall the driver you have now in the normal method (not usually needed...but...)

Second, reboot to safe mode.

Delete the MOTU folder in Program Files (and/or Program Files x86 - in a 64 bit Windows) if it still exists.

Third, navigate to C:\Users\{YOURUSERNAMEHERE}\AppData\Local and delete the MOTU folder.

Fourth, open the registry (regedit typed into the start menu and press enter.) Click on Computer in the top left. Then press ctrl+f. Type MOTU then hit enter. Delete the registry key it finds. (The "key" is like a folder on the hard drive, in this program.) Be careful not to delete any keys that are universal to other programs or software. In this case, simply delete the MOTU value in the right pane instead. Press F3 to find the next. Delete. So on and so on until done.

Fifth, navigate to C:\Windows\Installer. Make sure you can see the "Authors" column in the right pane. Click on that near the top to put the files in alphabetical order with respect to the authors. Delete the MOTU one or ones.

Reboot and install CCleaner. Use it to clean the pc of unwanted files AND THEN use it again to clean the registry.

Finally, install the new driver and all should go very easily now.

If you need more help, let me know. And good luck...let us know how it is. :)

Techlinks just ended up ignoring my Techlinks message. So I stayed on the March 2011 driver set.

I downloaded the Audio Installer Win 120109 and they had fixed the problem on that update. Apparently the Aug 2011 set did not work and we were left to figure that out on our own.
