Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
I've got some audio recorded at 96K in a 44.1K project. My understanding is that I should just be able to convert the audio file in the Soundbites window and tell it to only process the soundbite's file information and not the audio, but this isn't working. I switch the project sample rate to 96 and my file is now playing back slow. Am I missing something?

Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
Your info seems conflicting to me. If the original was recorded at 96K then why are you 'telling it to only process the soundbite's file information and not the audio' if you're trying to use it in a 44.1K project? Then you switch the project sample rate to 96... why?bobschwenkler wrote:I've got some audio recorded at 96K in a 44.1K project. If you think the file header has wrong info you can use Soundhack to fix that. Other than that, it's hard to tell what you have, what you're trying to do (and why) from what you've written.

Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
I'm not trying to play back in a 44.1K project, the audio was recorded in one. They're 96K files with 44.1K headers.
If I process the soundbites through the Soundbites window, ostensibly changing the file headers to 96K, it's not working right. My files are playing back pitched down and slow (after ensuring that the project sample rate is 96K).
I feel like I've not resolved my problem in the past using Soundhack, but the Soundbites window function I'm referring to in DP should be the same thing, right?
A friend of mine said he's had to convert the soundbites back and forth a couple times (in DP) before it worked. I'll try that too.

Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
Are you using the Convert Audio File function in the Soundbites Window? The first item in the dialog box for this is to convert the sample rate. Immediately under that is an option to only change the recognized sample rate without processing the audio file.

Yeah, that's what I was using (I wasn't around the computer to remember the exact syntax) and am experiencing the unexpected results with.
Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
Don't know what to suggest. The function works fine here. Maybe try "convert entire audio file" and "create new soundbite" to make sure it is selecting the right thing and making a file at the new rate.

Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
Thanks. I'll try that and anything else I can think of and see what I get.
Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
I would start from scratch if the original files remain intact---
The changes would include checking DP's Preferences> Editing> Automatic Conversions:
DP options are either:
1. On Import
or
2. Whenever "xxx" does not match "yyy". This would necessitate setting the project's default sample/bit rates in advance
or
3. Never

Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
So DP's processing does not seem to be working for me. It didn't seem to affect how my files were being played back. Maybe I'm crazy and need to look at this some more but that's sure what it seemed like. In Finder, DP's 44.1 files played back the same as the 48.
Soundhack worked.
Another little snafu I realized; my clock had been set to 96K and DP at 44.1. DP, or more likely the interface, seems to have halved my actual recorded SR. Changing the file headers to 48KHz in Soundhack did the trick.

Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
Very strange. I tried a single 44.1 file at 48 and 96 and it did the expected in speed and pitch. I even tried some odd rates like 36K and it worked with those too. I hadn't realized the function will work with non standard rates.

Re: Clock speed project sample rate mismatch
Every once in a while sound files get corrupted in that way and Soundhack is usually the answer in those cases. Sounds like maybe the 96-44.1 interface/DP settings were at play here. Good old Soundhack!bobschwenkler wrote:So DP's processing does not seem to be working for me. It didn't seem to affect how my files were being played back.
