MAS Error message

Post by funkyfreddy »

Hi, I've been having the my audio engine shut off quite a bit this morning while trying to finish a piece in DP 7.24. I've rebooted my comp, DP, and repaired permissions but keep getting this message -

Emergency Stop

The audio hardware's state changed while MAS was running/ (MotuAudioSystem Mas MasCoreAudioWorkThread.cpp, 418 [60:1])

I'd appreciate any advice from any of you DP/Mac guru's out there as to what might be causing this.

My setup is an Imac 2.4GHz core 2 duo 4 gigs RAM, running OS 10.5.8
DP7.24, Presonus Firewire - FIRESTUDIO Project audio interface. Thanks, Fred

How is your system clocked? I only see this message if I manually change the sample rate or bit depth on my interface... so it sounds like your Presonus is spontaneously changing something about the digital word.

I get this message if I accidentally power down one of the 3 interfaces, or if the cable somehow becomes loose between the Mac and the MOTU I/O interfaces...see sig. (second line)

Yep, ditto Buzzy: that'll do it, too. Maybe you've got a bad or wiggly cable.

Thanks for your replies! It's a mess back there behind the racks and they were recently moved..... the cable seems to be OK but I'll keep an eye on it.....

The Presonus is clocking my system as of now till I can afford something better. I still have my old MOTU 1296 but can't use PCI with my Imac unfortunately, so I consider the Presonus a temporary solution for my recording needs. I posted a link to my work in progress below.

Thanks again for your help! Fred

Looks like it was the cable.... I replaced it and haven't had this happen since. Thanks so much for your help again and Happy New Year! :D

Aargh..... guess what? It's doing it again, just had my audio engine shut off while mixing, same error message.

I'm wondering if daisy chaining firewire devices has something to do with it... ? I have limited ports on my Imac and have a couple drives in line with the Presonus.... wondering if maybe one of the drives might be acting up?

I hate these intermittent problems that I can't replicate.... grr.... :(

OK, so i took a drive offline and redid my cabling. My audio hasn't shut off the past 24 hours or so but I did get this message on start up today.

- Digital Performer has encountered an error.

Program error: a connection between two modules was made more than once. (MotuAudioSystem Mas MasModule.cpp, 411 [18:0] -

I hope my Presonus Firestudio isn't starting to go.....

First, try deleting this file:

User Library> Preferences> Digital Performer > *MOTU Audio System Prefs*

It might not hurt to delete this file as well:

User Library> Preferences> Digital Performer > *Preferences*

Shut down, reboot, and report back.

Thanks Frodo. That's one of the first things I did..... I thought it had fixed it at first but the problem came back. Right now things are stable but I think what I'll do next is get a firewire hub and take my old drives off the daisy chain I have connected to my firewire port, then leave the Presonus without anything else connected to it.

I really suspect one of my old drives is acting up, have been disconnecting them one by one but the problem is intermittent.... aargh.

I'm getting this same error on my new setup (which rocks otherwise!) Whenever I plug in or unplug headphones into the mac this error pops up. Should I disable it or is there something odd going on? Never had this issue on my old Macbook.

Thanks

This problem has returned with a vengeance..... even worse is that my audio is now shutting off intermittently and I'm getting the dreaded spinning beach ball...... which hangs until I force quit, reboot, etc.

With my Apogee unit it will just stop talking to my cpu and my fix has been to change the settings from 48 to 192 and back to 48. reboot both and stays rock solid for long stretch. about every 30 days I go through this. Scared the crap out of me first time. Sweetwater tech taught me this
