Sequencer doesn't remember window pos.+ one more thing

Post by bobschwenkler »

It's most annoying. The sequencer always reopens at the top of my track list. Is there a way to switch back and have it retain the last position I was at? In particular, it's when I'm going from the mixer to the sequencer.

I'm also having an issue with the hide/view tracks window (in both sequencer and mixer). I can make it pop into the consolidated window, but when I close and reopen it (the view/hide) it has popped back out into its own window.

The Sequence Editor is remembering its scroll position here. If it's not there, consider just leaving it open and use keyboard shortcuts to switch to and from it.

I assume the other thing you are talking about is the track selector. You might be better off using the track selectors that can be added to the side of each edit and mixer window with the small icon at the bottom left.

If you are not using window sets, that's another thing you might consider to get more stability in the way windows appear.

Are you talking about horizontal position in the sequencer window? I'm referring to vertical position. If I have enough tracks to have to scroll up and down in this window its position will reset every time I switch to another tab and back.

The track selector is what I'm talking about. Here's what I'm doing: I click the small icon at the bottom left of the sequencer window, it pops out into its own window. I can double click it to pop it into consolidated windows. I make it the only window on that side (the left for me). When I want to close it I click the X. When I hit the track selector icon again it appears popped out again.

Tell me if I'm missing something here: Window sets are frustrating to me because I configure things slightly differently depending on how I'm working. If I want my layout to be any different than what my saved window command is I either have to save a new window set or reconfigure my layout every time I use my "stock" window set command.

Here's another tangent I've been continually frustrated with after switching from DP5 (where I didn't use consolidated windows at all): All I want to do is switch tabs in my consolidated window, not save an entire window set. Can this be done?

I guess that's three related yet distinct issues I'm having. Sorry for the barrage, I've been working in V7 for a while and have not figured out an ergonomic methodology for these seemingly simple routines, it's a frustrating feeling to switch versions and have part of my workflow be pulled out from under me with no obvious alternatives provided.

Ok, I just figured the Track Selector thing out. I apparently can't use the icon, I need to use the key command for show/hide side bar to get things to work how I want.

I'll give a more thorough look through the key commands for these other issues I'm having.

No, I mean vertical scroll.

Strange. I can't get it to do that. If I click on the track selector icon in a CW or a single SE window, the track selector becomes part of the window I'm using, not a separate window.

I have 12 saved window sets assigned to the number key row. Half of them are nothing more than an editor with maybe a track selector and sometimes a channel strip. They aren't all perfect for everything, but they're good as starting points.

Not that I know about. But you could simply set up a CW, select a tab, save as a window set, select the next tab, save as another window set. When you press the keys you selected for window sets, the tabs will change and everything else will stay the same. Same as having key commands to select tabs.

I think I wasn't clear here. What I double click is the tab looking part in the Track Selector, this makes it pop in.

I guess I'll just have to go that route. I used to just stack the windows and use a key command to bring the one I wanted to the front. It worked well and wouldn't mess with any other parts of my screen configuration.

What do you mean by "leave it open"? Do you mean leave it open in a separate window from my consolidated window set?

That's the track selector window you are using. Try using the track selectors that are integrated into the editor windows rather that the standalone one. Also, check your preferences setting for the CW and make sure the Track Selector is set to open where you want it.

By "leave it open" I mean just leave it sitting open on the desktop behind whatever window you are working in. You can use Command-` to switch between windows. They'll all come back exactly as you last saw them because they were never closed.

As an alternative, you can open a load of windows and put them in separate Spaces. Then you can use Control-Arrow to go directly to the Space with the window you want.

Does DP open those windows in the different spaces if you start a new session?
As for me, all the windows put in different spaces won't open if I open up DP7 all over again - only the main window will still be there.

No, All the windows will open in Space 1. If you hold down the spaces key you can drag them all back to the original spaces in about 10-15 seconds, not a huge investment in time for an all day session. Maybe DP 8 will have better support for Spaces.

Hm, I haven't gotten into spaces at all yet. What I assume the feature is based on what it's called makes it seem worth looking into.

If you deselect 'Enable Consolidated Editing' in Preferences, I believe the Track Selectors are no longer linked.
