Mainstage 2, Ableton Live, UltraliteMK3

Post by pbone3b »

Hey Guys, this is my first post here.
I've been using, and enjoying my UltraliteMK3 for just under a month now, but the routing has me perplexed. I've attached a link to a flow chart I started as a google doc below of what I'm trying to do. I've got a Mainstage set up that I've been using for a while now. Mic in with various effects, keys/and synths, and a couple of loopers. It's been rock solid and I've gotten into a good performance flow with it. I've recently been learning Ableton Live, and i'd like to get it in the mix with what I'm doing in Mainstage. Sending audio, on the fly so speak from Mainstage to be sliced and diced in Live. I've had some success getting these two working together using SoundFlower, but I'd like to do it all in hardware with the Ultralite. I've been struggling with CueFX, and I just want to know if something like this is even possible?

https://docs.google.com/drawings/pub?id ... =960&h=720

Please let me know if there are any issues with the google doc link above. I tried it out, and it gives you a PNG of the Flow chart.

Thanks!

Hmm... nothing? Not even, "thats's completely stupid, why would you want to do that", or "of course you can do that, RTFM!" ?

I was able to look at your Google doc. I don't have an ultralite and can't comment on your issue. Seems reasonable. But I don't know what you mean by "doing it in hardware".
M1 MBP; OS 15.3, FF800, DP 11.33, PC3K7, K2661, iPad6, Godin XTSA (w/ SY-1000), 2 Ibanez 5-string basses (1 fretted, 1 fretless), FX galore

I'd like to do it without soundflower. I've got this interface with 16 or so in and outs, I'd like to use some of them ! :D

From your diagram, it looks like Soundflower is your best bet. You could try making physical input->output patches on the back of the device. For example, one output pair could be looped back via S/PDIF on the UL. Above and beyond this, analog is your best bet if you must do your routing "outside the box." The ULMK3 appears to be designed for mixing external sources.

FWIW, I use Soundflower daily to transfer audio in and out of DP for FX processing. The only problem I've ever had with it was when I set the clock source on the ULMK3 to "Soundflower" and forgot to set it back to "Internal."

HTH :)

I'll proceed with Soundflower then, thx. I thought I'd able to patch these in and out virtually with Cuemix FX? But I guess not?

I had another thought (in the form of a question): Have you looked into using AudioDesk? It's essentially Digital Performer without MIDI sequencing or the latest plug-ins. It's included for free with MOTU audio interfaces. The "Bundles" window allows you to set up just about any routing configuration that doesn't form a feedback loop. It might be what you were looking for in CueMix.

I don't know if this will work with your version of the Ultralight, but you may have the option in CueMix under "File" to select the option of "Mix 1 returns Output from Computer". This will route the output of any application through CueMix via the Ultralight to an input bundle in DP or AudioDesk.
