how old is my used MOTU 869mk3
Hello. I just bought a "mint" MOTU 896mk3 on ebay. Turns out it only has firewire and no usb 3.0. I'm wondering how old this thing is. the copyright in the manual lists 2008 but I'm hoping it's later than that. That's what I get for buying on ebay. Thanks for any help.

Hey...
I don't think MOTU makes any USB 3.0 devices at all. The hybrid is 2.0.
Anyhow, although 2.0 has plenty of bandwidth, you're better off using firewire anyhow. It's just more "professional" and probably more reliable in the long run.
What you have is probably the 896 or 896HD, not 896mk3.

Apologies. Looking into it a little more out of being bored, I see on ebay that there really is a non-hybrid (firewire only, no USB) 896mk3.

In any case, I'm guessing you got a good deal on it so ya man, hook it up by firewire and let it rip. You're going to enjoy the interface.
Sorry I can't answer how old it may be.

The 896mk3 is FW only and was announced in June 2008. It was replaced by the 896mk3 Hybrid late last years. So your unit could be anything from half a year to 3-4 years old.

Gentlemen. Thanks for the answers. The device looks brand new so I should be ok as long as I can get the device to show up in windows 7.
