Firewire problems on windows 7

Post by nevrotiq »

Hello people,

I need help connecting my Audio Express using firewire. I'm on a laptop with Windows 7 x64.

At the beginning my sound card wasn't even recognized but I solved it changing my firewire port drivers to the legacy ones. Now all apparently works but I can't hear any audio (sometimes I hear a high frequency noise that almost made my KRK's explode).

I'm sure the card works since it's ok using USB connectivity.

Any ideas?

Hey

Do you have a folder C:\Windows\Mindump?

If so, copy the files inside to any other folder. Then zip or rar the files. Upload the zip or rar to Multiupload.com then paste a link here.

I shall have a look for ya.

I can't find that folder even if choose to show hidden ones. This problem is pretty annoying: all the outputs are active but the sound doesn't seem to flow through the firewire cable if you know what I mean.

I'm worried it could be some chipset problem or nVidia drivers problem :(

It is very likely that your machine does not suffer from BSOD or driver problems, since the Minidump folder is non-existent.

I suppose what you can do is visit your motherboard manufacturer's site to find out its chipset. If it is NVIDIA like you say, then visit NVIDIA.com to download/install the latest update for your chipset.

I would also update the driver to whatever graphics card you have, as well as the driver to any wireless card or device you have attached.

Other than that, it is possible for your firewire chipset to be incompatible. MOTU does recommend cards based on the Texas Instruments chip. Of course, make sure the driver is updated to latest from MOTU.com too.

Of course, there is always the option of completely uninstalling (disabling only does not accomplish anything good - full uninstall necessary to test) your current antivirus with the special tool found online for whichever it is, in safe mode. A/v is quite often the culprit in these cases. If so, install MSE to replace it.

Thanks for the quick answer torrentg, I'll try updating my motherboard drivers (i updated the video ones yesterday).

I'm using Avira as an antivirus, I'll try removing it and see if something changes.

EDIT: No updates available from intel and HP websites. Checking antivirus now..

Still the same problem, even with no antiviruses on my notebook. Should I install a 32bit version of W7?

New problem. I'm desperate.

I tried using the card using USB and the power supplier. I get a noise coming out from my VXT connected to the 2nd master channel. If i plug the audio cable out it stops. That's not happening if I use the sound card without a pc. I think it's some USB problem.

Basically:

- Firewire doesn't work;
- USB makes annoying background noises.

What do I do?
