Latest Audio Drivers Won't Install on Win7 64 - Help!
Hello All,
I recently hooked my Dad up with a Windows 7 ADK box. We tried a Steinberg interface but the latency was too high, so I suggested a Motu 2408mk3 interface with a PCI 424 card.
He lives 1,600 miles away, so I used Team Viewer to remote in and install the latest drivers. My BIL installed card and shut down the computer. I had my Dad boot up so that I could log in but the computer Blue Screened. Once he rebooted, it went to "Last Good Known Configuration" and once it was up, the Motu drivers were missing and the card unrecognized.
I tried reinstalling the drivers but the installation would almost get to the very end, then say an error occurred and installation wasn't possible. I had him remove the card and tried again. Same error. I deleted the installation files, re-downloaded and tried again. Same error.
There isn't an uninstaller since the drivers can't be installed. Does anyone know of a solution? Thanks so much in advance!
Mike

Well dang, that's not good. I don't know Windows at all in this depth, but would it be advisable to reinstall the driver just to get the uninstaller? Is there even an uninstaller?
On a Mac I'd suggest something like TimeMachine of a previously installed system but again, I don't have a clue in a Windows platform.

Thanks for the response. The problem is that the Motu drivers will not install, at all. No folder is created, no drivers are copied - nothing.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Well dang, that's not good. I think something weird happened to the OS after the Blue Screen and Last Known Good Configuration. I hope it doesn't come to a complete reinstall of the OS, but it might.

Luckily, I'm a BSOD expert. And also know how to cure your MOTU problem, even if unrelated.
First thing is first, as the MOTU problem will require a very lengthy process and post from me.
Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
Copy files in there to any other folder. Zip or rar the files. Upload to Multiupload.com then place a link here that's given to you once upload is complete.
I will look this over and make my analysis of what needs to be done to stabilize the system.
If special attention is needed to Windows in regards to MOTU remnants, I will then too make the suggestions.

Thank you so much for the offer but unfortunately, the Minidump folder is empty. If you know of a way to remove the MOTU remnants so that I can reinstall the drivers, that would be awesome.torrentg wrote:Luckily, I'm a BSOD expert. And also know how to cure your MOTU problem, even if unrelated.

This morning, I removed every reference to Motu on the hard drive and the registry but the drivers will not install. The same exact issue is occurring and something is not allowing the process to be completed.
The Firewall is turned off, as is the Windows Defender. Any ideas? Thanks!

1) Boot the PC to safe mode. To do so, while it is booting, keep pressing F8 until the choice menu appears. The rest is self-explanatory.
2) Navigate to C:\Program Files and delete the MOTU folder if in there.
Do the exact same thing for C:\Program Files (x86)
3) Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and delete any and all files that start with "Motu". For example: motubus.sys, motufwa.sys
Also delete mfwamidi.sys if it exists.
Also delete mfwawave.sys if it exists.
Also delete any files here starting with "mfwa".
4) Navigate to C:\Users\{YOURACCOUNTUSERNAMEHERE}\AppData\Local
and delete the MOTU folder.
5) Click the start menu, click All Programs, then right click on the MOTU and delete.
6) Navigate to C:\Windows\Installer and right click at the top, directly to the right of where is says Size. Click on Authors. Authors now appears as a column. Click on the actual word Authors now to put them in alphabetical order.
Delete all MOTU entries that show.
7) Type regedit in the start menu and press enter. Delete the following keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MOTU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MOTU
8) Reboot to normal mode. Download, install and then run Ccleaner from Piriform.
Use this to clean all junk files it finds and then use its registry cleaner function to clean the registry.
9) Download and install the latest MOTU driver and all should be well.
Very important if you do not use Winrar for extraction of the driver: Make sure you extract the contents of the download before running, as opposed to running it from within your extraction app.
Good luck and let me know how it goes. Perhaps I missed a thing or two and I will double check, if necessary.
Enjoy!

Thanks! I've cleaned everything in normal mode, so I'll try Safe Mode. Can I connect to the internet via Safe Mode? As I mentioned earlier, I'm remoting in on my Dad's computer. If not, I may have to ask a family member to go to my parent's house.
Thanks again and I'll keep you posted.

I can't find C:\Windows\Installer. Everything else up to this point had already been cleaned.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Open Windows Explorer. Make sure you are on the page where you can see all drives. (C:, D: etc...)
Click Organize (top left), then Folder and Search Options. Click View tab. Click the radio button to Show hidden files, folders and drives.
Then also make sure there are no checks for Hide protected operating system files.
Click OK. Now the C:\Windows\Installer folder should be able to be seen.
If not, it is possible that x64 Windows has it elsewhere, but I don't think so. Unfortunately, I do not have a x64 machine here right now to check.

Re: Latest Audio Drivers Won't Install on Win7 64 - Help!
Getting ready to install the drivers. I found the Windows\Installer by showing Hidden Files but there weren't any files in that folder.
I had tried everything but it still won't install due to error. My next bet is to re-install Windows.

Re: Latest Audio Drivers Won't Install on Win7 64 - Help!
Since the drivers wouldn't load, I tried using System Restore to a point before the Motu Drivers were installed. It took about an hour and I was able to fully install the drivers. Unfortunately, the computer will no longer boot up in Standard Mode and I've had two blue screens since.
I think I'll format the disk, reinstall Windows and try to load the Motu drivers. If it doesn't work, then I'll have to return the Motu.
Thanks for any additional input.

Been a long time and I'm still having problems loading Windows 7 (and Vista before) when my computer date is current. For that problem you have to change the system clock when you boot, and it will see the MOTU.
In your case, it may be a firewire driver problem, so go into the device and select Windows Legacy Firewire.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response. This was a PCI based 424 and it was returned last week because it was incompatible with the 64 bit system. Thanks again!
