What version of Pro Tools for the 828mk3?

Post by joe_pgh »

Hi. I'm currently running Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 on Win 7 64 bit. I just purchased a new Motu 828mk3 audio interface.

According to this info, I need to upgrade to Pro Tools 9 for my the 828mk3 to work with Pro Tools:

I'm trying to figure out what version of Pro Tools to upgrade to. I was thinking I could just upgrade to Pro Tools MP 9. However, according to this link from the avid website, Pro Tools MP 9 does not support "ASIO, Core Audio, and EUCON support (for third-party interface and control surface integration)"

Does that mean I need to upgrade to Pro Tools 10 to use my new Motu 828mk3 interface? Or will Pro Tools MP 9 work as well?

You might be better off asking this question over on the Avid board - http://duc.avid.com/index.php. I know there are still some software differences between the M-Powered and regular versions, but don't know the extent. I use regular PT9 (not M Powered) with the 828mk3 and it works fine on both Win & Mac. As for 9 or 10, Avid's been jerking everyone around on upgrades, so called crossgrades, etc. There is no upgrade from 8.x to 10 - it's full ticket. The folks on the duc will be able to fill you in and give you the caveats of buying/upgrading on ebay and such - there are already several threads. Might be a good time to check out DP also (sorry for the sales pitch). They've just announced a Windows version that will be available shortly. Take a look at a couple of the recent DP threads.
