Re: NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
Nomad Factory has announced Magma, a comprehensive new effects plug-in suite designed for premium quality processing, flexibility, and unprecedented ease-of-use.
Magma is an advanced plug-in suite that features 50 unique “single-rack” audio processors, each with a friendly and familiar interface, which can be “mounted” into a user-customizable rack interface. Categories include Dynamics, Equalizers, Modulation, Reverbs, among others, with more currently in development.
Magma is a VST, AU, and RTAS plug-in host that allows the user to combine an infinite number of audio effects, all in four easy-to-use racks (AAX plug-in format will be available in a subsequent update). Its architecture allows the user to interchange racks freely with a flexible routing matrix for building custom effects chains. Individual plug-ins may also be loaded directly into a DAW. For added flexibility, the Chainer Module allows the creation of FX chains within chains.
Future updates of MAGMA will support 3rd party VST, and AU plug-ins, allowing users to utilize the Magma framework for plug-ins from other manufacturers.
Magma will be available in Q2, 2012 with an MSRP of $199 from dealers throughout North America, on their websites, and through the ILIO website at http://www.ilio.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Re: NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
Thing is, it's very easy to find out most companies releases and announcements. But not MOTU's... Everytime MOTU has done a preview no more information after namm until it's released. And even when they actually release something at namm they don't update their webpage until some days after namm. Where most companies update on day one.
That is why you have to rely on the reports of those that attend namm for MOTU info.
Has no one still not seen anything about a possible new audio interface or the CueMix iPad app, for example?

Yes! +1kgdrum wrote:I don't want more, I want everything to work!
I'm totally excited about 64 bit, and can't understand why anyone wouldn't be. It is not about DP's survival as much as it is about my survival. I have projects that I simply cannot finish because I can't run all the plugins and VIs which I want to have running in order to finish the projects. There is so much that I don't do, because I know it will overload my system and cause DP to crash. There are experiments and things that I don't dare try, because DP will run out of memory and crash.Michael Canavan wrote:So what exactly are we to be excited about? This is brutal I know, but 64 bit isn't anything to get excited about, it's not a new feature, it's a necessary step if DP is to survive.
64 bit is going to free us, and allow us to be more creative and experimental, and will allow us to develop more organic workflows, without having to constantly make decisions about what we can't do, and what operations we have to avoid.
There is SO MUCH to love about 64 bit. I have been craving this "feature" for years.
I am surprised that you don't see it as something to get excited about. This is like an upgrade from a Tascam cassette tape 4-track recorder to a full-fledged recording studio with 72 tracks, and an analog tube console with built-in effects and high quality 2 inch tape. Pretty exciting I'd say.

NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
Okay, I'm sitting in bed in my hotel room about to crash out soon after going to NAMM, hitting the MOTU-Mac Dinner, and chatting with the MOTU guys over the evening. Being on the scene, I can fill in some gaps now and clear up some misunderstandings.
RE WINDOWS:
Mac development is going to continue strongly and will remain a priority. The Windows version is simply a logical step to increase the user base and and it would follow, revenue. Further, without knowing much of the details, it's not diverting resources and energy significantly from Mac development, perhaps because of cross development tools. The apps are IDENTICAL feature for feature. Even more impressive, graphically it's identical as well. Unless you looked at the desktop or maybe the font in the menu bar, you wouldn't know of you're on Mac or Windows. DP 8 will ship with both the Mac and Windows versions. The user can choose which they want to run. Projects that only use the included DP plugs can be opened by either the Mac or Windows versions. Third Party plugs course will cause a problem as there's no AU on Windows obviously.
CUE MIX IPAD SUPPORT
This was indeed shown when I watched the demo. It is not actually a proprietary app, but rather it appears MOTU created their own template for TouchOSC because that's the app I watched Magic Dave use to control CueMix. You can also have multiple iPads control CueMix at once.
SIXTY-FOUR BIT
Self-explanatory.
VIDEO ENGINE REWRITTEN
From what I understand, no reliance on QuickTime anymore, thus the audio from the video window is not handled by the MacOS but piped into DP's audio engine. Video playback is more efficient.
PLUG INS
The guitar stuff is cool, but there's more than that. There's a dynamic EQ and even a de-esser as well as a cool chorus effect and the guitar effects can also be used on other sources.
NEW THEMES
Not a big deal but some of them looked cool.
Finally, I did shoot video of the DP portion of the demo on my iPhone. 23 minutes long. Bad news is it's too big to upload to YouTube from my iPhone. I'm using an iPhone FTP app to compress and upload the video to the MOTUNATION server and then I'll embed the QT movie in this thread and also a new topic. Hopefully all will go smoothly.

I have to say that I thought that after Steve Jobs passed
and Apple messed up Final Cut Pro that if I was MOTU
I would have DP ready to go to Windows. I wouldn't
be surprised if they have been working on it for a
while.
