John Cage? How about that one piece of his where he just sits at the piano for a few minutes and plays nothing. That took some real thought.

Here's an interesting one. A clever arrangement by Juliette Greco, centered around one note and one word - Si (yes) - Note that the instrument is never the same , nor her pronunciation of the word. The French kill me with their charm.

Happy Birthday Antonio Carlos Jobim! While not an orchestrator per se, if you know his work you can hear in a lot of his accompaniments the lines that would then be taken by great arrangers such as Claus Ogerman and Eumir Deodato and fully orchestrated.
Really love Claus Ogerman's work with Jobim and his voicings are amazing.
My favourite song, probably of all time, love the string voicings in this version
although the version of Jobim and Elis Regina is joyous.

Liked it. But I don't hate Cage, I just thought he was an amusing example of an orchestrator, cuz composing and orchestrating require a lot of ego. And Cage is all about chance ... well, chance and mushrooms
I like modern music, but the conceptual stuff is kind of only interesting the first time you hear it (or not It's really just intellectual - unless you're with a hot babe.
Wow! Re: Jobim, I just posted a beautiful samba version of Over the Rainbow.
