Dongle going bad?

Aside from the variety of Viagra, et. al jokes, anybody else have a dongle going bad on them??

Just upgraded from a G4 to a 2gig dual G5 with 2.5 gig RAM and sometimes the dongle works and sometimes it doesn't. I've plugged it directly into the machine, into the keyboard and into a hub and 40% of the time I get a message telling me that my version of 1.0!!!! isn't authorized. I haven't used 1.0 in I don't know how long
I've installed the 1.2.whatever beta update and the update of the dongle software and the problem remains.
The short term solution SEEMS to be, keep moving the dongle. If it doesn't work, try another port and stay there until it goes out again. Shake, stir, repeat, bake at 320.

Hello,

I have the same problem. On a G4 then on our new G5. The swapping thing etc. It is getting worse. The only remedy is to buy a NEW I - lock and transfer your M5 account into the new one.

First, create an account at I-LOCK.com.

Of course do this before the old I lock get completely busted. Otherwise, you will have to make an exchange with a new one via your Mach 5 distributor or directly thru Motu. But this take some days and so those will be days without your MachFive...

Yeah, I have two iLoks and one of them has been doing this for over a year. I unplug/replug it and it starts working. Doesn't matter what USB port is used (directly connected to the G5, or a hub, or the keyboard, etc).

I've got authorizations spread across both of these iLoks (didn't want all the eggs in one basket) but maybe I should transfer all the auths over to the one that works consistently. Grrr.

I understand that they are concerned with the piracy of their software, but I am really disappointed with the whole ilok thing. My ilok came apart a month after getting the mach five. I have to jingle the thing to get the light on when I boot up for it to work. Sorry to say that I am not the only one with this problem.
I have a Mac G5 dual hard drive. I am on Tiger. I am currently using a Kurzweil PC3X Synth to a motu828mkII. I am using the Dp 6 with the machfive2 sampler, waves gold bundle, and altiverb reverb unit. Studio Monitors are Mackie 824s. Rode NTK condenser mic.

I asked MOTU if ALL their software came with iLok, which I called a "recipe for disaster". The reply said that all the VIs used iLok which was "an effective means of copy-protection'. He also said that AS OF YET, Digital performer didn't require iLok.

Think about this: when the company that runs iLok goes out of business, all your software will be on it's last legs. My friend uses Spark and has to deal with a German company that bought them out. They speak little english and they take forever to answer his "call-and-response" request when trying to re-install the software on his crashed computer.

I'm staying away from MOTU's virtual instruments, and when DP goes iLok, I'll be switching over to Logic. It's a damn shame, but I'm no fool.

Don't forget, Logic uses a key as well. It might be a different set up, but a key is a key and if Apple sells logic.........

Apple uses it's own key, not the iLok. His point was if Pace goes out of business, iLok users have a problem. The analogy would be that if Apple goes out of business, Logic XS key users have a problem.
