Trying to "Bounce to disc" to "MONO", "channels" is missing
I have a stereo audio track on my track window, and I select the audio then select "Bounce to Disk" under the Audio menu, I don't see the "Channels" in the "Bounce to Disk" window.
My manual of DP7 (p974), I see the figure that contains the "Channels". How do I make MONO audio file from the stereo file in DP? If I can't do it in DP, any other options?

I've never bounced to Mono, but I think you have to "fold" the Master track to Mono. You do that in the mixer directly.
Hey, I had never realized, until now, that the mix the manual talks about in page 974 in the bouncing example is MY mix (Fernando's mix)

Split the stereo track into two mono tracks and pan both to center. Not elegant but it works.

Select a non-core audio format (from the upper part of the Bounce window's "File Format" list) and the Channels option should show up in the bounce window. Apparently core audio does not support this option. I usually use "Broadcast Wave, Interleaved" and it works fine.carlura wrote:...I don't see the "Channels" in the "Bounce to Disk" window.

I've wondered about this for a while! This is helpful!

Yes, this is something that ought to be changed in an update some time. Rather than grey out the options not available with a particular audio file format, DP omits them from the menu lists, and this is not explained well in the manual.

Re: Trying to "Bounce to disc" to "MONO", "channels" is miss
I agree that the manual is deficient in this instance, but I like the fact that I don't have to look at greyed out options. I think MOTU's method of omitting non-options from the menu is kind of slick. I think the manual should be corrected, not the program.

Re: Trying to "Bounce to disc" to "MONO", "channels" is miss
I see your point Phil, but for better or worse, the convention is that when an option is generally available, but not available in a specific instance, it gets greyed. Using DP's approach in this dialog box, regardless of the elegance, confuses people. Greying tell you "can't be done, but not now". Omitting it doesn't tell you anything. The confusion is compounded because DP generally does grey out unavailable commands.

I think Phil O's comments dissolved my question. I'm sorry that took long to thank you.

Re: Trying to "Bounce to disc" to "MONO", "channels" is miss
I'd send to a mono aux and record it's output.
Re: Trying to "Bounce to disc" to "MONO", "channels" is miss
I agree with this. I just spend almost half an hour trying to figure out how and why I couldn't bounce to a mono file. It would have helped to have at least seen the greyed unavailable option so that I could have gone straight to figuring out what I had to change in order to make mono an option.bayswater wrote:I see your point Phil, but for better or worse, the convention is that when an option is generally available, but not available in a specific instance, it gets greyed. Thanks Phil for the answer. Core audio doesn't support it. I had to create a mono file with AIFF. I would have just merged the audio, but some of it had looped content and the merge function just generates blank audio where the content is being looped. I guess could have tried freezing. I guess I'll try that next next.

Wouldn't adding a Master Fader track solve this?

Re: Trying to "Bounce to disc" to "MONO", "channels" is miss
I'm not in front of DP but I've had instances where tracks didn't bounce with others. Frodo suggested I use a master fader and they bounced fine. I'll check my theory against the o/p issues later this morning, but in some instances this can work.
Then again I was bouncing to stereo, not mono. I'll still check it out shortly.

I actually use a Master Fader in all of my chunks by default (i.e. set up in my project template).MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I'm not in front of DP but I've had instances where tracks didn't bounce with others. The solution to select mono was in the "Bounce To Disk…" dialog box. It was just a matter of choosing a non-Core Audio File Format and then suddenly extra pop-up windows and a bunch of additional options became available. Not so difficult once figured out, but a little confusing if you haven't.
