trackpad or magic mouse?
My magic mouse died a few days ago. Loved it (except for its early, not too-far-out-of-warranty death.) Reverted back to the mighty mouse that came with the computer, and it just doesn't cut it.
So, which is better, trackpad, or mighty mouse? (based on whatever criteria are important in your usage.)

I LOVE my MX Revolution. Logitech stopped making them. Too bad. Have magic trackpad and mighty mouse as well. I prefer mice but the trackpad is pretty cool as well.

Re: trackpad or magic mouse?
I have the Magic Mouse and love it. Tried the magic Trackpad and took it back after about 10 days as I started getting pain in my wrist. Stopped using it the pain went away. I'm sure not everyone has that problem. I also found it slowed me down when editing.

I think it also depends on your type of work. I'll use the trackpad for notation and some other editing. The 10+ button MX Revolution in combination with SteerMouse and Quickeys is nothing short of miraculous.

Re: trackpad or magic mouse?
I got the Magic Trackpad and it's wonderful in many ways. Some really nifty things in Lion. But the most basic, click and drag objects, selecting text and just clicking are not any of those... I would love to have it's functionality in a laptop (I still have an old MacBook Pro without multitouch). But for working I wish I had the Magic Mouse instead.

Re: trackpad or magic mouse?
I have both, and the trackpad has its place, but if you want to settle on one of them, I'd take the mouse. Even after a few months, using the trackpad seems to take conscious effort that the mouse doesn't.

Re: trackpad or magic mouse?
Thanks for the feedback-- I'll probably stick with what I already like and get another magic mouse, and maybe a trackpad when I have some spare cash.
Edit-- found a used one (very good condition) with a year warranty (as much as apple gives for a new one) at OWC for $49. The last one only lasted about 17 months, so figured that unless I wanted to spring for extended coverage, the $20 off on this one is a good deal. They also had one in "fair" condition with 90-day warranty for $39.

Trackpad in Lion. There are a few things I still prefer todo with my trackball.

Re: trackpad or magic mouse?
Both the magic mouse and trackpad take advantage of the "gesturing" features of Lion. The mighty mouse (and other mice, I presume) does not.mikehalloran wrote:Trackpad in Lion. There are a few things I still prefer todo with my trackball.
It will be interesting to see if other mouse manufacturers can design that into their products-- or is it proprietary to Apple products?

Re: trackpad or magic mouse?
I have a magic mouse, also, but find the trackpad much more versatile in Lion. Both of my daughters prefer the Magic Mouse.
My wife, whose hand shakes sometimes, can't use either and prefers a standard, USB optical, two button mouse - the $5 one from Micro Center works just fine.
