iPad 1 or 2 for control surface.

Post by wolfetho »

Hello:

Just wondering if anyone has experience using both the iPad 1
and iPad 2 as a control surface? I was considering getting
the iPad 1 because I get one refurbished through Apple for
$399.I know the iPad 2 is supposed to be faster but would this be
very noticeable if I'm using the iPad strictly as a control surface
for DP, and not for Internet use.

Also, would 16 GB of RAM be sufficient for this application?

Thanks,
Tom

The only real difference, as far as I can tell, is that the iPad 2 has a camera. Yes, it's thinner and lighter but the functionality is the same.

Not storing my music nor tons of pictures on mine, 16G is all I am ever likely to need. The additional storage doesn't add anything else.

I have v.1; my daughter has v.2.

Having owned the iPad 1 for a while I wish I had the ipad 2. I think the additional processing power would be nice and help things overall. Plus, I have garage band (which is great btw) and that really would run much better on the new iPad! Finally, I think a year warranty is worth the extra $. Not sure if refurbs get a year warranty or not.

Warranty on refurbs is identical if purchased from Apple. This is true for any of their products.

The only issue I have ever had with an Apple refurb is that old user data is not always wiped clean. I ran into this on all three Time Capsules that I have purchased - resetting to factory defaults fixed that.
