I did the whole thing in like five days from concept, writing, tracking, then having my bud Jim lay drums and mix in L.A. through various back and forth notes between us and then got it on iTunes and then performed and edited a music video with the help of some great friends. Five days from concept to completion. I haven't slept much!!

Oh... and here's that video... enjoy:
Loved the vid! Man, as Frodo said, do you do anything halfway? That was excellent. I didn't even miss the 11 go-go girls, but now that I said that, I'm starting to  (but that has nothing to do with the quality of the video). I'm glad to hear that the drums were really "someone." They sounded great, and I was wondering how you got that from a drum library. Shoulda known.
Thanks so much, Shoosh and others for the kind words. It was a whirlwind deal and I'm tired. In hindsight, it's something I should have started weeks early as there was simply no time left for promotion or to get the word out and 11/11/11 has passed although I still like the song and it will be included on my CD. In addition I have another version that is more of a parody and the lead vocal is sung with an exaggerated cockney accent... it's quite humorous. I may offer it as value-added thing to fans/friends on social media at some point.

As for drums... I'm an old school rock guy. I "don't do drum library" on anything that's important or I plan to release. The only thing I used a drum VI that I released was A Christmas Jam... (also on iTunes/Amazon) and that was Addictive Drums. That was simply because of a time crunch. I'm putting it on the "album" though and having real drums added. :)

I think one thing about this is that Digital Performer is as much a ROCK DAW as any of them. Bugs me that it gets so pigeonholed as a film composer's DAW. I also did a single, while I'm plugging music called "Can It Be The Same" and it featured a guitar solo by Brad Gillis from Night Ranger. Brad is a diehard DP guy... and Night Ranger rocks pretty hard. I'm going to ask my sources at MOTU to consider a little piece of the making of this song for their website... to help me out of course... LOL... but also to help them shed some of the "film composer's DAW" image that I don't think serves them to be stereotyped as such.

As an old school drummer, hearing this made me smile. :D

Keep on rockin', James. It's what keeps us young.

BTW: Has everyone seen the mini sequel that they did with Satch? Satch got them back together and did it sometime in the mid-90s. Fargin hillarious, Nigel was in even better form than in the orignal. He goes into this long tyrade about the behind-the-scenes choosing of guitar gods. And they pretend that they're doing a joint project with Joe.

"Joe and Spinal Tap, we work really well together. We each bring our own strengths. Joe brings his virtuosity, control and writing. And we, well... we bring... volume."

Acording to the update, 11 is old hat, their new amps have an infinity setting. 11 just wasn't enough after a while.

With anyone else, I would have found it to be a bit arrogent, but Satch has just the right personality to pull it off. I've gotta go see that again.
