About damn time! I do hope this applies to digital music as well, although a lot of them don't charge anything so cutting them off from their payment processor may not accomplish anything. Still... this is a step in the right direction!

It's a step in the right direction and doesn't seem to have any hidden agenda behind it that would hurt the little guy.

It looks like it protects US manufacturers against both domestic and foreign pirates, but doesn't protect foreign manufacturers against domestic pirates. probably that sort of thing has to be dealt with in international court, United Nations, etc.

What will be interesting is whether or not it will be vigorously enforced. You can pass all the laws you want, but without enforcement they are meaningless. Still, what seems cool about this is that private parties that are infringed upon can actually enforce this themselves.

Looks to me like it protects anyone as long as the pirate site uses a payment processor subject to US law, which would include most of the credit card companies, paypal, etc. Like Wikileaks being cut off around the world because they can't get credit card payments processed. Some parts of the world use other less centralized mobile payment systems, these will still be available.

I'll tell ya, this is a godsend for me. I've had 5 hours of film music being illegally sold in the UK for about a decade but the logistics and costs of bringing an action against Amazon UK (!) are crazy - so if the law passes, I'll be first in line!

May as well send them a letter now, and let them get it dealt with before the onslaught. Who's going to oppose passage of this bill?

Well when we start talking about legislation and who is or isn't opposed now we're getting into politics. That said, I see no obvious argument against passage of such a bill. :)

You have Tories? I thought Canada was the only place left in the world with them.

We *had* Tories back in revolutionary times (Google 'em). That's why I thought it would be enough of a 'safe' zone. :) they were American colonist who favored the British. Now we just call them 'theatre folks.'. LOL.

Right. Those guys. They rebranded themselves United Empire Loyalists, and moved to Ontario.
