System Upgrade DP7

Hello. I am going to upgrade my computer OS and from DP4.6 to DP7. Are there any Mac OS systems paired with DP7 I should avoid or use? I am planning on upgrading from OS 10.4.11 to OS 10.5 and DP4.6 to DP7. I have a 2.5ghz, dual processor G5. And advice, tips and things to avoid are much appreciated. Thank you.

It's very hard to make recommendations for software that spans many years of development since the OS that you're going to use. My first inclination is to avoid updating drivers beyond whatever you've got working well with your OS. You might call MOTU to see what drivers they recommend for Tiger. Once you get the OS and the drivers in simpatico, the app should work pretty well.

My advice which you didn't ask for: start checking eBay or Craig's List for a lightly used multi-processor Intel Mac Pro that you can afford to upgrade to. The sooner you can get into Snow Leopard and DP 7.24, the better off you'll be.

I have to agree. I was on a G5 until about 2 weeks ago and the difference is staggering. If you do any video editing, you'll appreciate the rendering speed as well. But VI handling and smooth operations are a welcome change in DP and other apps.

Whatever you do, be prepared for lots of driver and app updates!
