Final Cut XML files - How To...?
Any of you that can give me a crash course in working between Final Cut Pro and DP via XML files?
My wife does video on her computer, so she exported an XML file for the project at hand. She put it in the same folder as the project. But when I go to import it through the network DP gives me the "Either the audio file does not exist..." error.
Thanks for the education! I have not done this process before.

cbergm,
Well I can give it a go. From what I can read you mentioned 'network' which may be the culprit.
An XML file is merely a text file which makes references to A/V files. Basically, your wife may have set of A/V files which need to be on both computers before you import the XML files. Furthermore, the location of those A/V files need to be in the same 'relative path'. So, for starters make sure you have the same files on both computers (this is just in my experience, I have never used a network situation) and in the same location on each computer. I assume also your wife is running FCP 5.0 and above.
In the manual, page 62 for Export Final Cut Pro XML, you can find all this information as well.
On a side note, if you have resolved this issue, when you import the file make sure you check the chunks window in DP because I have imported files in before and found it frustrating that it was not importing. Only to discover later I did it three times in three different chunks.
The manual gives a pretty clear approach and also a few troubleshooting runs helps. Then once you see how it functions it is a handy workflow.

Thanks, Mr. Freaky.
Yea, I think doing it over the network may be a little wanky, although I suspect someone smarter than I could take me through it. I was just trying to get by without having to copy the whole video project to my drive, but that may be how I have to do it.

Were your audio files on both machines when you tried the XML? If there is no common audio to reference the XML won't make any sense.

No, I was trying to point it at the other computer through the network somehow...but I admit I turn into a bumbling fool with it. Is that possible somehow I wonder?

Nope. No bumbling fools 'round here. Babbling idiots, for sure. Ignorant morns abound. Inept boneheads all over the place. But bumbling fools? Not seen any since the last guy was booted outta here. Others will have to guess at who that might have bean'...

I've heard rumors about bumbling fools being kicked out, so good thing you don't think I am one even though I feel like it sometimes.
