I am going to wait with ordering Kontakt 5 update. Would like to get M5v3 instead.

Two main questions:

* does M5v3 have something similar to K4 memory server. NI introduced a memory server concept with K4 which allowed users to load samples into separate memory space, thus elegantly overcoming 32-bit host limitations. Because DP7.24 is still 32 bit app, this feature saves a day, every day.

* trying to find details about included orchestral library. Instrument lists, audio samples. None found yet. Maybe someone can point my nose to the right direction.

Although I have not yet written to Magic Dave to request my V3 upgrade, my Komplete 8 upgrade was delayed by several weeks as European orders were given priority.

So now it's going to be funny to see which arrives first: MachFive v3, or Kontakt 5?

Hmm, will the one that arrives first make the strongest impression, by default?

Interesting version. It looks like a blend of GB app for iPad and Real Guitar kind of engine also.

So my guess is that DP8 will support 64 bit.

It looks as if I could do the cross grade up grade; I have East West play, Sample tank 2 and Kontatakt 3. I bought them as a down load so what will I have to do to prove I have them?

I posted this elsewhere but maybe it belongs here...
I was looking around for info reviews of M5v3 and found this tidbit by one of the M5 developers on some forum:
(and it seems the UVI developers are quite active and outspoken in various forums, as opposed to MOTU's Apple-like secrecy)

If i'm reading the spec right, no separate MAS version this time?
You are reading right.
We now only use cocoa UI in order to support 64bits version of OSX. MAS format do not currently support this.

Actual thread:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 758eaed92b" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now, this makes you wonder... Will MOTU update their entire MAS architecture to go 64bit with DP or will they scrap it and make DP just Cocoa/AU native? Let the speculations begin! ;-)
M5v3 looks really really nice. I hope they give DP some of that treatment too :)

Check http://www.ilok.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for info regarding iLoks.
Basically, you get your license that you download to your iLok (that goes into one of your Mac's USB ports) and as long as the iLok is inserted you don't have to think about it. Kinda sucks for mobile rigs but is totally seamless on a stationary computer.

I had the same question. An email to sales@motu.com with the question got a quick answer. Might depend on the app, but it's easy.

How soon we forget ... maybe that's why they make new releases every "century" ... MachV version 2 was soooooo instable that I had to switch over to Kontakt (have to make a living and can't wait for customer support to get around to responding and then "marking" my problem as resolved) ... even to this day I find some long lost patches looking for their audio files. Will I be converting back to version 3? Not sure ... I have to admit that my patches sound better in Kontakt ... but it's so ugly.

Apart fm its indubitable power as a sampler, Kontakt is mainly used as sample player due the vast third party library out there.

M5v3 seems more a sort of swiss army knife: you can build your own samples patch, directly read your old library fm iso images without importing them, use oscs to build your own synth - drum sounds.

And if they maintained the "easy to use" philosophy, it would be definitely easier than K to build our own stuff.

And yet you never posted a single message here to try and fix any issues in the 18 months you've been on the board? Well, this is a good start.

M5 has been stable on my machines (ver 1 & 2) as well on many other machines which leaves one with the impression that perhaps you might have a problem in your system. Maybe you could better describe what you mean by unstable.

As far as patched sounding better, you might also examine what plugs or FX might be at work. A playback of a sample is a playback of a sample. If it sounds different, then the playback device is adding or subtracting something from within the patch. I'm not saying you're wrong about your perceived difference, but you seem to be implying that one sampler plays back with a better sound than the other. Just sayin' that you might examine the patches in detail in each. Maybe you could qualify and quantify that a bit more for us?

You might also post your system info should you decide to find out why M5 is not working well on your system.

Happy first post! :woohoo:

Having upgraded in 2007 I have to admit that I was not aware of this forum and by the time I joined, "MachV" was already a bad memory. Looking a different threads not much was said on the subject.

Unstable as in crash.

Nothing fancy ... plain patch ... one sample, full keayboard (even stuff from my S-760 days ... better Hz ... smoother KHz.

Sorry about that ... one of my system is in my signature.
