PCI-X 424 G5 card issues

Post by tatosan »

I recently bought a dual g5 2.3 1gig Ram and had to upgrade to the PCI-X 424 G5 card due to PCIX slots. Now when i am recording, when i hit playback, i get "Processor overload " warnings and have to stop. It should be impossible, since it's a faster rig and nothing else has changed. Has this been reported elsewhere? Shouldn't my hardware setup offer me a larger buffer than 1024? Maybe an issue with idle-only software i am running? (although i did that with the slower 450 dual g4 and no problemo?) Thanks for any light shed on this matter.

If you're running Motu hardware 1024 is the largest buffer setting you get.
I can't recall for certain (someone else feel free to step up) but I believe
which PCIX slot is used can be one of the root causes of the problem.
I'm using a 2408mk3 with various other bits of hardware hooked up
to a single G5 with no problems (of that sort anyway)

Thanks for reply. Motu emailed me and told me it makes no difference which pci slot i used. Strange since some run at 133 and others at 100, (they didn't tell me which is which), but....I get cpu spikes, not always but usually when least desired. I might have to do a clean install of 10.4.2, elsewhere on this forum i read that it helped some people with the spikes, although their setup was different. Or maybe get a faster HD... i am at loss a bit, but thanks for helping...

Have you tried all the standard stuff?
Such as Repair disk permissions and such.

here's a free Utility that can help as well.

Also If you don't have DiskWarrior for repairing/optimizing
your Disk Directory, it's well worth the money.

www.alsoft.com

I should also mention that I have had compatability issues
with some third party plugins/VInstruments
Tassman was one that caused audio spikes for me.
