Here's a problem I've been living with for a few years:
Working in a project with a few sequences, at times DP will give me the never ending spinning ball when clicking on a tracks name in the trackswindow ... I actually got used to it trying to avoid that sort of clicking.
Moving from my good ol' G5 to a maiden-like MacPro I thought this problem should be solved ... wrong. Again it's there!
This problem also appears on my 2007 MacBookPro from time to time!
Anyone?

Strange click trackname - spinning ball problem
How did you move your stuff to the new machine. I bet you used Migration Assistant or copied lots of stuff instead of a clean install.
I say that because if you use MA or drag certain items from 1 machine to another, the permissions get copied 'as is' and if there are any permission issues, those get copied as well.
What I would do is a COMPLETE CLEAN install of the systems and apps from their original media. Don't drag anything but files or use MA. Certainly don't drag anything from the main or user libraries.
IMO this is either a permissions or directory problem (MA copies those too). But it is fixable. I went thru a similar issue with Finale and a few other programs about 2 years ago. Bought a new HD and installed EVERYTHING from scratch. Not a problem since. Now if you'll excuse me I need to find some wood to knock on...
Good luck.

Re: Strange click trackname - spinning ball problem
I did a complete fresh install on the new machine, including DP and all my PlugIns ... fresh.
I didn't even copy my presets yet.
Do you think the problem could be copied within a DP-file? So let's say I use an external FW-HD and open one of my old files etc.
Thanks for thinking!

Re: Strange click trackname - spinning ball problem
SOunds like you installed DP but not the OS. Spinning beach balls are often caused by permissions issues. Which ones? Who knows? The only way I was able to rid myself of this kind of thing (in Finale in my case) was a clean OS install and if you can manage it, on a new HD. They're fairly cheap these days.
Here's the thing as I understand it). The app (DP in this case) asks the OS for data off a file. The OS tries to access the data and for some reason, the "permissions" that are set for that file (which may be an invisible file, BTW) are corrupted.
No matter how many times you reinstall DP, that permission wasn't changed. Repairing permissions won't necessarily catch the error but sometimes it can. So until the problem is corrected, the error will recur.
What's a boy to do?
